BioWare Undecided Over Changing Mass Effect 3's Endings

BioWare issued a statement this morning saying it has made no decision regarding requests to change the endings of Mass Effect 3.

The studio published an update on its Facebook page explaining it is taking all player feedback into consideration. Below is BioWare's full statement.

We are aware that there are concerns about a recent post from this account regarding the ending of the game. In this post it was stated that at this time we do not have plans to change the ending.

We would like to clarify that we are actively and seriously taking all player feedback into consideration and have ruled nothing out. At this time we are still collecting and considering your feedback and have not made a decision regarding requests to change the ending. Your feedback and opinions are of the utmost importance to us. We apologize for any confusion this has caused.

Our top priority regarding this discussion is to keep communication with you, our loyal fans, open and productive.

On Friday, executive producer Casey Hudson published a letter online saying, "This is not the last you’ll hear of Commander Shepard." Numerous online petitions from fans asking BioWare to change Mass Effect 3's endings have surfaced since the game's release earlier this month. One fan claims he filed a complaint with the FTC.

  • DON'T DO IT. The endings are amazing just the way they are!

you know how people say nothing can be perfect or in other terms perfected. Well i finally found somthing that is, and i speak the truth the whole truth and only the truth when i mass effect 3's endings are PERFECTION at its highest level !!!
  • Really, it's their choice. I hate the endings myself, but BW has the final say on what the ending is/was supposed to be. That said, if they were to make the "indoctrination theory" dlc, they'd gain a lot of community back.
  • I have not yet purchased this title (I want to refine my Sheperd before I do), but I think think people might be blowing this up bigger than it needs to be blown. I mean, I really have no place to say as I have yet to even start the game, but can it really be this incredibly terrible?
  • Looks like this is going nowhere fast. Still, I think Bioware should do SOMETHING about that ending.
  • Ok I need to beat this game already cause I really don't get why people are having an uproar about this =/
  • I haven't even tried ME3 yet. To busy in Amalur. I am curious about this so called "horrible ending" though. Ehh, some day perhaps.
  • stick to your guns BIOWARE. these outraged fans are ridiculous. not worth it
  • It's good to see that BioWare is actually taking this seriously. So, whatever your opinions on the ending, keep sending feedback, and we'll see where it goes from there. Also, can BioWare please keep Casey Hudson away from the media? Because honestly, he's pissing off more fans than the actual ending. Put a muzzle on him, BioWare.
  • I don't think they need to or should do it. They created an awesome trilogy with what I thought a great end!
  • well i had plans to replay me1 and 2 as i had me1 on 360 and me2 on ps3 to get the whole effect but hearing about the ending makes me wonder if all your decisions throughout the first 2 really even matter for the 3rd... o yeah GI gave it a FREAKIN 10!!!!! so it cant be that bad...i hope
  • Do not fold to pressure Bioware. Stick to your vision.
  • Seriously, just leave it alone. I wasn't a big fan of the ending either but changing it just seems pointless
  • I honestly think the game-play is the major flaw with Mass Effect 3, after playing the demo, I can honestly say that I am VERY unimpressed with the shooting.
  • Coming December 21, 2012, Mass Effect 3 Ultimate Edition!
Includes all the DLC, and an alternate ending!
  • Here's the ending they should release: The final events play out and the game fades to black. Suddenly, Rick Astley "Never Gonna Give You Up" begins to play and text scrolls across "Are you not entertained?!?!?!?!? Lulz." The end. Make certain it is released as paid DLC.
  • Don't cave, Bioware! America doesn't negotiate with terrorists (publicly), so Canada shouldn't either.
  • *Spoiler Warning* I think my only real concern with the ending was the lack of resolution for all of my squadmates. I don't mind that Shepard dies in two of the three possible endings and I don't even mind that the Mass Relays get destroyed but that brief little sequence of the Normandy crash-landing on some unknown planet and then just a straight cut to credits left me wanting more. What happened to all of these characters I had formed such a strong bond with over the course of three massive games? Did Ashley go on to become a successful Spectre? Did things work out for Garrus and Tali? Did the Salarians, Krogan, and Turians all finally start getting along? I remember feeling the same way after the ending to Star Wars: KoTOR 2; just a brief little sequence of your ship flying off and that was it, no follow through on the fate of your squad-mates. If Bioware offered some sort of "extended" ending that answered some of these questions for me, I'd feel much more satisfied.
  • They call us "loyal fans" and say they care but they treat us like cash cow. Rather than including Javik in the game (they could have delayed it), they parse him out and sell him to you as DLC. Now it seems that Casey Hudson is hinting at DLC to fix the ending. I don't want to pay money to fix an ending that they must have known would be disappointing to fans, especially after the epic last mission and endings of Mass Effect 2. Your choices carried more weight on that ending then on the one in ME3. I think people are willing to forgive them, and obviously these fools running to the FTC deserve derision, but Bioware needs to stop treating us like cash cows to be milked for more dollars and start treating us like "loyal fans".
  • There's no reason to change the ending. It's Bioware's game, created by people in their studio, with a specific story to tell. If people don't like it, that's unfortunate, but that's no reason to recant one's previous work. Stand by your product, Bioware.
