The lights are on
BioWare issued a statement this morning saying it has made no decision regarding requests to change the endings of Mass Effect 3.
The studio published an update on its Facebook page explaining it is taking all player feedback into consideration. Below is BioWare's full statement.
We are aware that there are concerns about a recent post from this account regarding the ending of the game. In this post it was stated that at this time we do not have plans to change the ending.
We would like to clarify that we are actively and seriously taking all player feedback into consideration and have ruled nothing out. At this time we are still collecting and considering your feedback and have not made a decision regarding requests to change the ending. Your feedback and opinions are of the utmost importance to us. We apologize for any confusion this has caused.
Our top priority regarding this discussion is to keep communication with you, our loyal fans, open and productive.
On Friday, executive producer Casey Hudson published a letter online saying, "This is not the last you’ll hear of Commander Shepard." Numerous online petitions from fans asking BioWare to change Mass Effect 3's endings have surfaced since the game's release earlier this month. One fan claims he filed a complaint with the FTC.
I would prefer not to
I was kinda pissed off there was no legitimate good ending, just a "not-so-bad" ending where all synthetics die
Just have a little faith people, have a little faith....
I'm really mad that you cant lose to the reapers (like Bioware said would be possible way back on the cover reveal). It would add so much more meaning and determination knowing that you could end up losing the final battle. In ME2 where you could fai lthe suicide mission and die, that was a great idea, i just hoped to see more like this in ME3's ending.
I say leave it the way it is its a great ending.
they are probably debating it over themselves, i just want to know what happened and whats next
Hmm.. only two ways this ends up
Either new fantastic endings or they some how make it worse.
wondering what happens next
I think BioWare should stand by their work and not change the ending. They shouldn't cave because only the people who hated the endings are being outspoken about it. I'm not saying i liked the ending but they should be proud enough of their work to leave it be.
I just beat the game today and I think the ending was fantastic. What were they expecting? A party? Leave the game alone.
I personally don't have too much of a problem with the endings of ME3. I do not like how there is really no closure to what happens to your squad, or the rest of the galaxy. And Joker's little bit at the end didn't sit well with me at all. However overall I didn't have the urge to take up my torch and pitchfork and hunt Bioware down.
As for how people say that choices made didn't have a large effect on the ending, I have my own little response to that. Mass Effect 3's story was an already set one from the beginning (as it was in the other games mind you!) In the first you were out to stop Saren, and you did that no matter what happened throughout. In the second game your sense of choice was more full because your success depended on who did what with what upgrades you gave etc. However in the end of the second game you only really had the choice to destroy the collector base or keep it.
In Mass Effect 3 you were set out to gather a force to reclaim Earth. The choices you make throughout the past games were expressed there and not in the endgame. For example your choices in the past game (specifically two) completely effected how the Geth and Quarian conflict ended. Depending on your choices the Rachni queen could have been an ally. Depending on your choices certain characters would show up to help you from previous games if they survived. All of that is how it should have been. Each major decision was given a moment to shine in a mission that you took part in. Therefore in the end you were able to see the effect of your decisions in who you met along the way to re-take Earth, and who joined you to fight it out.
