The lights are on
The development behind Dragon Age II is finally complete. The team has finished all content for the game and has moved on to the franchise’s future.
Mark Darrah, executive producer of Dragon Age II, posted on the official BioWare forums saying the team is moving on to what's next. “While we will still be keeping an eye out for any issues that might crop up in DAII and supporting the community should any emergencies should arise, we’re moving the entire team’s focus to the next phase of Dragon Age’s future.”
Darrah wasn’t able to give any hints or clues but suggests the team is taking a good, hard look at the series going forward.
“You’ve most certainly heard the rumors floating around, and unfortunately I can’t really comment on them,” he said. “However, what I can say is that we’ve been thinking a lot about Dragon Age – what it means, and where it could go. This past year, we’ve spent a lot of time both going back to the ‘BioWare vault’ of games and re-examining them, and looking at some new possibilities that today’s industry allows.”
In an interview with Wired last December, BioWare CEO Dr. Ray Muzyka said his studio was looking heavily at games like Skyrim. “[The next Dragon Age] is gonna have the best of features from the prior Dragon Age games, but it’s also gonna have a lot of things I think players are gonna find compelling from some of the games that are out now that are doing really well with more of an open-world feel. We’re checking [Skyrim] out aggressively.
"We like it. We’re big admirers of [Bethesda] and the product. We think we can do some wonderful things."

I hope to god that Bioware doesn't try to mix Dragon Age and Skyrim... That'd be a big ol' mess.
Guess they totally lied again about there being DLC coming this year for Dragon Age II.
you know i was so much less interested in my dragon age 2 when skyrim came out. i didnt enjoy the story you ran around doing seemingly meaningless tasks
I Love all the Dragone Age games but Dragon Age 2 Definately had the best magic gameplay i loved it, it was so much better
lmfao, so sad whats happened to BW, was my fav dev such a short time ago. now they're just cloners or they make everything terribly dumbed down. atleast ME wasn't ruined, really thought it was going to be.
My hope for DA3 is that they give the game a kung-fu feel and rename it Jade Empire 2
Here's to hoping they leave the radical gay agenda out of the game this time.
Hmm, I hope they don't rip from Skyrim too much. There is a place for open-world sandbox type games. But Skyrim is a bit too unfocused and purposeless for me. I like games that bring you more of a story and have the world change around you in response to your actions.
Hopefully Bioware just learns their lesson from ME3 and treats us more like valued customers rather than cash cows to be milked with all the DLC they can think of. Whatever the case, you couldn't pay me to pre-order this game, it's a wait and see until Bioware redeems themselves.
the first one was great and I haven't played the second one and i heard it was good. I think the evolution of the first two games will create a good third installment.
Sweet!
Well if I know bioware, after two releases into a critically acclaimed RPG series that had more success than they expected, they will now make an MMO out of the third and screw the pooch.
The "next phase" of the Dragon Age franchise? You mean me not buying it?
Yes! The Dragon Age series was the first rpg game series I played and I enjoyed it so much. Hoping if there is a third one it is more like the first though, and also that it doesn't try to be like Skyrim too much...
Please, please, PLEASE Bioware - don't end Dragon Age like Mass Effect!
since they dumbed down the second one and made it all button-mashy, maybe the 3rd one's combat will resemble Dynasty Warriors.....
Loved the first one, despised the second one...guess I'll see how the third game finishes the pattern. Highly unlikely I'll buy it when it first comes out though...demo or not. The DA2 demo tricked me into thinking it would be a fun game and not a boring repetition fest.
Mass Effect 3 showed what a good story means to a game; it was incredible! MAKE A GOOD STORY BIOWARE!
