Rainbow 6 Patriots Creative Director Is Gone

UPDATE: We received the following official comment from Ubisoft:

"David Sears is no longer on the Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 Patriots team and the new Creative Director is Jean-Sebastien Decant. The development team is still hard at work to deliver the next installment of the revered Tom Clancy series and more details on the game will be revealed at a later date."

ORIGINAL STORY: When Ubisoft first pitched Rainbow 6 Patriots as a potential cover story, we were immediately drawn in by its unique approach to storytelling. Embracing some of the narrative techniques of Heavy Rain and shifting the player perspective between Team Rainbow, the True Patriots, and the civilians caught in the crossfire convinced us that this was a project worth backing. Now it seems Ubisoft could be going in another direction.

According to our sources, Ubisoft Montreal has restructured the development team, removing creative director David Sears, narrative director Richard Rouse III, lead designer Philippe Therien, and animation director Brent George from the project, all of whom we interviewed for our Rainbow 6 Patriots cover story.

Rainbow 6 Patriots is tentatively scheduled to release in 2013 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. How this shakeup affects the rest of the development remains to be seen. We have reached out to Ubisoft for a comment.

  • wow! i was REALLY exited about this game, like pre-order NOW exited......but now,im pretty sure im not gunna get it.
  • Wow, were they afraid of how the games story was shaping up? cause I thought it looked BA. But now I'm worried.

  • Wow, that was quite the restructure

  • But WTF will this mean?

  • I hope they don't change the game.

  • let's hope they won't disappoint us !

  • This sucks, I was really looking forward to the dark theme the trailer had going. I really hope this doesn't now just turn mainstream and become super linear or something.

  • ???

  • Maybe some good will come out of this. ??

  • Time to pop in Rainbow Six & keep the spirit alive, hopefully this doesn't change the direction it was going in too drastically. Different creative director means new creative ideas & that could either be bad or great for this amazing looking game they have already.

I'm thinking either keep what they have so far & add on from there or if they feel the need to scrap & start the process over again then it better blow what we have seen already out of the water.

  • Ok, I don't really care who's making it, as long as it comes out as a great game in the end.

  • It better not screw up the narrative!

  • **BRAAAHHHH**. Now when it comes out we'll all just think of what could have been.

  • Man, its really been reconstructed i hope they don't do it to the game
  • bait and switch

  • How sad, I hope to hear they are still going same direction and not totally changing it up, i bet ubisoft was like oh wait this needs to be more COD and not something unique.
  • Wonder what the hell happened?

  • And...anticipation -99%. Could have been something more than just a generic military shooter. Don't get me wrong, I loved Vegas/Vegas 2, but Patriots could have been something special.
