Who Is Your Commander Shepard?

by Matt Miller on Mar 06, 2012 at 05:45 AM

As you begin Mass Effect 3, what decisions have made your Shepard into the man/woman she is today? Share your version of the galactic hero with the GI community.

If you played the first Mass Effect or Mass Effect 2, you owe it to yourself to import your character decisions from the previous installment into your playthrough of Mass Effect 3. When you import your character, you'll see a list on the side of the screen of some of the major decisions that have formed your character up to this point.

Who is your Shepard? Start by telling us some of those most central of decisions, but feel free to let us know whatever else makes your Shepard unique.

I'll get us started.

Alex Shepard grew up as a colonist and after joining the military became something of a war hero. When fighting against Saren and Sovereign, she utilized her training as a Vanguard, but in more recent years in her conflict against the Collectors she focused in on her military capabilities as a pure Soldier. Years ago, she preserved the rachni queen and her race from extinction, and saved the Citadel Council from death (even though she thought they were all idiots). Her friend Ashley Williams survived Virmire, but Kaidan Alenko did not. Through some shrewd talking, she kept Urdnot Wrex alive, so he could continue on to lead his people. Later, Shepard saved Maelon's data on the krogan genophage. She chose to destroy the geth heretics. Betraying Cerberus and the Illusive Man, she destroyed the Collector Base, but managed to get out of the mission with all 12 of her squad mates alive, as well as all her captured crew. She had a brief romance with Liara T'soni years ago, which was recently rekindled during T'soni's quest to confront the Shadow Broker. Shepard likes fish. And model ships. And dancing awkwardly in night clubs.

Your turn! Share your version of Shepard (no need to write a whole paragraph unless you want) in the comments below, then check out how other players differed in their approach to the long-running sci-fi series.

And please, NO MASS EFFECT 3 SPOILERS.
