Rumor: Will Assassin's Creed 3 Include Cooperative Play?

Rumors are circulating that Assassin's Creed III may include more than one assassin teaming up to fight the good fight.

A recent article over at IGN offers some suggestion that AC III may include 2-4 player online cooperative play. What's the evidence?

Well, it's pretty flimsy. For a short time, Microsoft put up a product listing for the game on its website with a bullet point that declared the game would have 2-4 player online co-op. The detail has since been pulled, and could just as easily been a misuse of a product listing template as an actual leak.

Game Informer reached out to Ubisoft about the story, but Ubisoft declined to offer any official comment on the matter.

While it's certainly possible that Assassin's Creed III could include an online cooperative component, it would go contrary to anything Game Informer witnessed during our recent trip to Montreal to see the game.

Time will tell if the rumor turns into fact.

  • I wonder if it is real, then if it will be separate levels or playing the story together.

  • Please be true! I've been waiting for this since brotherhood didn't.
  • PLEASE!!

  • It will be AWESOME!!!

  • I hope this true, it would be more icing on the cake!

  • well i think this would be cool but i hope its seperate missions kinda like mass effect maybe

  • Didn't one of the covers show a second Assassin behind Connor?
  • That would be interesting. I dunno how that would be integrated, but if they can do it right I'm all for it.

  • I would love to for this to happen!!!!
  • I can see it happening. In some of the assassin training sequences for ACR, you had to stay in the target's line of sight and distract him while your apprentice goes in for the kill. I can see some assassination targets being designed for two people.
  • I really hope this turns out to be true. While I really liked the ideas and concepts behind the mulitplayer in Brotherhood and Revelations, I'm not a big fan of competitive multiplayer so sadly my interest tapered off rather quickly in both games. A cooperative option would be an amazing addition in my opinion and would certainly attract more fans of the series to not only buy the game but to continue playing it for a long time. Maybe it could feature separate linear missions like Spec Ops in CoD or maybe a more open approach with players having to work together to assassinate certain targets, I'm not sure how a Horde Mode approach would work in the AC universe but it's another option to consider as well.
  • If this is true I'll buy copies for all my friends eighter they want the game or not! I've been hoping for this since the second game.
  • Co-operative play would be killer!
  • what if for the co op you played as your assassin's brotherhood members and did the missions that you sent them on to level them up?
  • If this is actually true, this would be really cool.
  • that would be awsome!!!!
  • I never liked the idea of competitive multiplayer in AC, having a friend fight alongside me, create distractions, and the like seems like it would work better in the style of game AC is.
  • interesting, if Mass Effect did it then they are thinking about it

  • This could spice things up, I skipped on Revelation bc it was not "different" enough (not that I expect the games to be ground breakingly different) to drop $60.  Hopefully this one can pull me back into the franchise for a fresh experience.

  • Interesting...curious to see how they'll pull that off and just how many interactions will the players have with each others.
