The lights are on
The publisher is apparently so happy about the engine that powers Battlefield 3 that it is creating a whole studio focused on exploiting the technology.According to an invite sent out to Game Developers Conference attendees, EA Gothenburg is being introduced at a meet-and-greet this week in San Francisco as the company tries to lure talent to the new studio. The first title Gothenburg will be developing is being kept behind a non-disclosure agreement that prospective job seekers are required to sign at the event on Wednesday.More Frostbite 2 engine games is something we can get behind; Battlefield 3 certainly didn't suffer from a lack of visual quality. What are you hoping that EA makes with the technology?
Im up for more frostbite
I'll bet those attendees must be happy. They better make some really awesome games with that engine; it's a powerful engine.
I hope its something really interesting and creative like what valve did with the source engine. Portal was awesome.
There are many avenues of development that could sprout from this. It is an impressive engine so here's hoping they strike gold with it :)
In a game with the Frostbite engine, I want more crap to blow up and less indestructible buildings in some of Battlefield 3's maps. Back to Karkand featured the favorite maps from BF2 and look- none of them were close quarters! CoD's tight maps and Battlefield's battlefields are supposed to be different, I play CoD to play CoD and Battlefield to play Battlefield.
Yeah, there's no way that project will leak... in say, a week.
Surely we have only seen a fraction of what that engine is capable of.
I was just talking with a coworker this morning about it actually, how humorous it is that BF3 is being nitpicked for it's visuals. One day the gamer collective by and large will declare visuals mean nothing and cry out for a "gameplay renaissance" ... others, the current benchmark for visuals is lackluster. One must keep a shaker of salt handy...
Well when you have as much money as EA this sort of thing is more than possible.
