Zynga Moving Beyond Facebook

Zynga today announced it will soon make available many of its games to play through its website.

In a few days, Zynga.com will host Words with Friends, CastleVille, Zynga Poker, Hidden Chronicles and CityVille. Games from other developers will be added soon afterwards.

"We've invested heavily to build a network and infrastructure tuned for delivering social gaming at scale," Zynga CEO Mark Pincus said. "We’ve learned a lot about developing, launching, scaling and supporting the most socially engaging play experiences and we're excited today to begin to apply this to a broader set of games.

"We’re building a dedicated environment for our players to interact with each other around our games and we’re excited to make that network available to our fellow developers so our players can enjoy their awesome games too."

One added feature is the new Social Stream, allowing you to play in real time with your friends and find new ones. Pincus said this is not a move to separate from Facebook, but rather to compliment the social network.

"We're proud to be a part of Facebook's ecosystem and we built Zynga.com to complement their pervasive social graph," he said. "Zynga.com will be one of the first sites completely integrated with Facebook which has become the world’s social dial-tone."

  • and then...  crowds of gamers cheered happily.

  • Ah, so is this all a move to make their own rip-off Facebook? Or, maybe they're trying to make a push into ripping off console games soon.
  • That's cool I suppose, I play a few Zynga games myself
  • Excellent move by Zynga.  Like it or not they've tapped into the fastest growing and largest possible niche market.

  • Oh god, the evil is spreading!
  • Maybe an idraw, from apple/udraw cross. They copied everything else theyve done so far...

  • In most cases I look down on people for dissing established companies, but how many indie developers did this giant screw over?

  • This is a gaming website, would you please stick to game and gaming-related news?
  • I knew it would be too much to hope for Zynga moving to the grave. This company is a sack of crap and I want to take it to mordor and thow into into the lava.

  • Zynga = Atari E.T.

  • If anyone here supports Zynga, you shall be burned at the stake. Immediately. That is all.
  • I'm pretty impressed by Zynga, out of all the companies that make games for Facebook they are the only ones who are moving beyond it. I wouldn't mind playing a game on there website as long as i didn't have to use my friends to play it, or pay money for it.
  • I doubt this will be very successful..distancing from Facebook even a little could prove to be deadly to them.

  • I"m curious has to the status of the lawsuit is going.

  • Zynga... no one cares!

  • Finally! I don't have a Facebook account (and I don't want one), but I want to try out some of Zynga's games. This will be perfect for me!

  • I hope they move into Oblivion, but that's just too much to ask.

  • interesting. Good idea, but they need to start being nice

  • Might be good for some people but I'll probably still just play their games on my phone.

  • Thank God... another reason not to get facebook.
