[Update 2] Sony now says PSN will be down starting tomorrow afternoon. "This significant PSN maintenance period is expected to start at just after noon Pacific and will last for several hours, until approximately 2am Pacific on Monday, March 5."

[Update] Sony now states the maintenance period has been delayed. "The scheduled PSN maintenance has been postponed. We'll update everyone once it's rescheduled. Until then, game on."

[Original Story] Sony says that the PlayStation Network will be down on March 1 for nearly a day to undergo maintenance.

Maintenance is expected to last from just after 8:00 am PST until approximately 10:00 pm PST. Below is Sony's full statement:

Unlike typical maintenance events, consumers who are already signed-in to PSN will be signed-out, and consumers will be unable to sign in for the duration of the maintenance window. During this time, users won’t be able to access the PlayStation Store, PlayStation Home, Account Management or play online.

PSN enabled websites will not be able to service users, including this one. Please stay tuned to the PlayStation Twitter feed for a notice when PSN is fully back online.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Hopefully they're taking it down to fix Twisted Metal - even after 2 patches we're still having online issues...

I would gladly pay for PSN to avoid these day long maintences. And all my friends that just have a PS3 ask me why I pay for Xbox Live and I say ''because it works right and is the best way for online gaming.'' I get SSX tomorrow for my PS3 and two days later, no PSN. Get it together Sony.

It's just for a day. Play a single player game, or just take a break and don't play anything that day.

Since PSN is free, I have no problem with this.

It doesn't really bother me since I'll be at work for most of that time period. And I've been playing Valkyria Chronicles lately which doesn't require PSN. :P

Getting a little ridiculous. This is already the third time this year that they're going to shut it down for an entire day. There's got to be better ways to conduct your maintenance fellas.
