April Cover Revealed: Assassin's Creed III

For years now we've enjoyed the adventures of Ezio Auditore as he makes his way through the Italian Renaissance and Ottoman-controlled Constantinople. That story is over. Ever since the conclusion of Assassin's Creed II, a senior team of Ubisoft developers has been secretly toiling away on what comes next. That team aimed high, with plans to examine and rethink every element of the franchise from the ground up, build something new, and take a full three year development cycle to do it.

The game that emerged is Assassin's Creed III. Set in the latter half of the 18th century, we'll see the war between the Templars and the Assassins escalate as it crosses over to the New World of America, and witness firsthand the events of the American Revolution. Caught in the conflict is a daring new hero in the Assassin's Creed franchise. We have the full story of this new hero and the striking game in which he stars, along with exclusive screens and art from the project, all packed into a massive 13-page cover story.

To whet your appetite, take a look at an early glimpse of the new game. Our cover image gives you the first hints of what to expect. Who is this new protagonist? What is his importance to the larger history-spanning story of the franchise? Let the speculation begin.

If that front cover didn't give you enough to talk about, explore the full wraparound.

In addition to our main cover, a small number of random subscribers will receive our limited-run special edition cover crafted by acclaimed comic artist Alex Ross, as seen below.

  • This is really exciting-can't wait to see how they portray colonial America! The only thing I'm worried about though is the buildings-since the cities won't be as old, won't the buildings be smaller?

  • This looks awesome, a great setting, and i'm happy that they have been working on it for a while

  • CANT WAIT!!!!! The possible native american aspect has me excited! Finally i culture ill know something about!

  • wow, best cover ever.

  • well i guess ill be a fan of ac when this comes out

  • Waiting for ac3!!!!

  • we want the top wraparound as a poster!!!!

  • i can not wait  my subscription ran out last month and i forgot to renew it :{

  • I saw a picture in which the assassin is stomping on a British guy (red coat) and in this it looks like he's facing an American soldier (blue coat.) I don't think that he's on either side. He's just killing whoever will change the tide of war in favor of whatever the assassins are hoping to achieve.

  • i was hoping the next installment was going to be a prequel based in ancient egypt =/

  • Does he still have a hidden blade?

  • Can wait to get my hands on it.

  • i can't wait

  • Will we see George Washington and/or Benjamin Franklin in Assassin's Creed III?

  • AC3  looks really amazing :) cant wait.

  • Assassino!

  • Okay then this is what I think.  Random American solider ( high ranking) Is separated from his team.  While lost he learns that he is a descendent of the great assassin, Ezio Auditore, and decides to continue his life as an assassin for the American army while learning more about those who came before him.  That or this is a completely different dude with no relation to Ezio who decides to be an assassin to better help his fellow soldiers on the field of battle.  My bets on the first idea.

  • That's a cool looking collector's item there.

I await the April Fool's stuff.

I'm hoping that Journey is all that it's cracked up to be.

  • This is what I have found searching the interwebs so far. Obviously it takes place during the Revolutionary War. The main character's name is Conner Ratohnhaketon. He is half British half Native American and most likely a descendent of Ezio/Altair and a preceder to Desmond. He will most likely use a tomahawk (as shown on the cover), one or two flintlock pistols, a bow, a saber, at least one hidden blade (could be replaced by the tomahawk), and some other weapons. He will most likely have bombs of some sort and throwing knives. He will be fighting against the British on the American side (AAAAAWWWW YEEEEAAAAHHH!!!) because he is seen assassinating a Lobster-Back and will have interactions with George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and most likely another famous war hero like Thomas Jefferson. I am thinking some new features in the game will being able to climb trees (I'm thinking 1/3 of the game will be outside in the wild), more action battle scenes, and the ability to hunt. This could play in to a food system and having hunger. One way you could store food is with the pouches you have. The story will most likely tie in very closely with Desmond and the other AC games. Multi-player will also probably get a huge advancement. Overall, this game sounds SOOOOOOOO sick. I may as well already hand over my money to Ubisoft. I am a big fan of both the AC series and American History as well. I will always be loyal to America. No country is greater in any way. Anyway, this game is gonna be awesome, i have no doubts in my mind. Totally sold.
