Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward Coming To 3DS And Vita

There is a little-known DS game called 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors. Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward is in the same series, and it's coming to North America.

The press release from Aksys Games is vague about whether Virtue's Last Reward is a true sequel to 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors (999), but it does state that both games are part of the Zero Escape series. If you haven't played 999, it's basically the video game version of the movie Saw or Cube. You have to solve puzzles to avoid getting killed or blown up, and there are others who are in the same situation as you.

The game will have a retail release for both Vita and 3DS, and will also be available to download through the PlayStation Network. The game will contain both English and Japanese voice tracks, will feature 3D characters and environments (999 featured hand-drawn 2D characters and environments), multiple endings, and familiar characters from 999.

You can check out the Japanese trailer for the game below. No word on a release date just yet.

I know a few people who are pretty serious 999 fans, and apparently the game has a pretty devoted cult fanbase who are quite excited that this is coming to NA. I've heard a lot of positive press about 999 myself, so I might take a look at it or its sequel.
  • oh gosh not these games. they give me the hebiegibies
at least the video wasn't scary
  • Yessss! A multi-platform release! This shows people that both systems are closer in power than the PSP and DS was. Still, the Vita's pretty powerful (and they may have watered-down the 3DS version, though it sounds unlikely). And most importantly, this is a sequel to a great game, though I've never played it.

  • You just mention 999 and I'm buying this game because it was fantastic! ^_^
I'm so glad there's another game in the series and that it's coming to PSN in addition to 3DS and Vita because I don't have either of those systems.
  • I've always heard good stuff about 999. If I played my DS more often, it would be a really good idea to try it out... Anyways, good to hear that fans will be getting a sequel

  • the original translation of the title "Good People Die" is a better title. Zero Escape doesn't capture the macabre as much.

  • Good. I was hoping we'd see this. Doesn't have the same harsh ring as "Good People Die" but still. I plan to pick up this because I own 999 and it is good.

  • Aw why didnt they keep "Good People die"? I cant wait for this game. I have the demo on my jp 3ds but my lack of the language kept me from advancing very far. (i think i solved 2 puzzles) the animation looks great and the puzzle gameplay solid.

  • Looks interesting to say the least.  Can't wait to hear more about it.

  • I recognized the gas mask right away in the thumbnail ^^

999 is brilliant. I loved it for the time I played it. I like and also hate the fact that the game has multiple endings though. I played it twice to get two of the (BAD) endings and really didn't feel like replaying it much after that, because I was too lazy to do the puzzles over again. They should've gave you the option to skip the puzzles you already completed.

Still, this is great news. Too bad I don't have a 3DS. Also, I like the fact that they're doing 3D models now, but I think I prefer the art style over it. The models just look too cartoony to me and kind of make me feel like they'll take some of suspense away. They should do the same as they did with the last game and maybe add in voice acting and the occasional cutscene or something.
  • Interesting trailer but did you notice that some of scenes look like chicks getting raped? I don't got a dirty mind, its just I was like "WHOA."

  • I hope the trophies are awesome. 999 was a very fun and unique game. Though I wish they kept static images because these character models are hideous.

  • That's great news. 999 for DS was awesome, and I'd love to play another game in the series. on a side note, wasn't a 999 sequel announced for DS?
  • Haha, how I love thee Japan! You are epic. :D

  • I have no idea what the hell is going on. Subtitles please and thank you.

  • I've heard of 999 before. This looks pretty interesting. When it comes to NA I might have to check it out.

  • Not at ALL what I thought that was going to be.

  • Yay! I am SO looking forward to this!

  • Awesome! 999 is one of my favorite DS games, and has one of the best game stories I've ever experienced. Because of its unexpected success, it is pretty easy to find now I believe, I recommend everyone give it a shot. Also that pink haired girl looks like a grown up version of Clover from 999, maybe we will see some of the other characters return?
  • pretty cool probably gonna be for the Vita i just don't need the migrain from my 3DS
