Both Microsoft and Sony have been downplaying the immediacy of the next-generation of consoles, but a new batch of systems is certainly inevitable. A tweet from a Crytek developer suggests that studios are working on something.

Sean Tracy, a technical designer with Crytek, tweeted, "Enjoying the Durango developers summit in London. So far, great swag and interesting talks." The tweet has since been taken down.

Durango is the rumored codename for the next Xbox, and although Microsoft hasn't announced anything regarding a successor to the Xbox 360, any console manufacturer would do well to loop in developers as soon as they could.

Tweet taken down? c'mon. this is probably the worst kept secret in the industry. Microsoft is better off just announcing it exists already. Are you really trying to save it for E3 when the reaction will just end up being, "tell me something I don't know..."

So far the rumors are of an HD capable tablet controller just like the Wii U, 4 GB of shared memory being driven by a PowerPC CPU and an AMD GPU on a single hyper efficient chip with 8 cores and blue ray for the optical drive. Rumors have also surfaced that the system will have a measure built into it that stops used games from being played on the console. These are just rumors I've heard on Gamespot and IGN so don't crucify me over the probability of these claims. I think I am just going to get a new gaming PC when my 360 stops becoming a supported platform. That an a Wii U.

It's not surprising that the companies are working on the next-gen consoles. They just don't seem to want to release them until they make as much money as they can from the current gen consoles, as well as perfect the next-gen consoles. I don't mind waiting one bit for new consoles, mine still have a lot of life left in them.
