HBO Go App Coming To Xbox Live

You've probably heard from HBO Go users how much they love the streaming service, and now Xbox Live fans can get in on the action.

Engadget reports that at an HBO event last night, company co-president Eric Kessler announced that the service will be heading to Xbox Live on April 1st.

HBO Go requires a subscription to HBO via your local cable or satellite service.

  • If only I knew someone who actually has an HBO subscription and didn't just pirate it... :(
  • What if I have satellite can I still get it or is cable required?
  • Just in time for Game of Thrones!  Fantastic!

  • Yeah, but I hear it's an absolute pain to try and sign up for the service, if you don't have an HBO Subscription to begin with.

  • I was wondering what happened to this...

  • "HBO Go requires a subscription to HBO via your local cable service."

^I thought the point of providing these streaming services via console was to *avoid* dealing with your local cable company.
  • I'm still waiting for xfinity to show up on Xbox Live.

I subscribe to HBO through Comcast, so hopefully I'll be able to get it on Xbox Live.
  • Looks like someone is going to be watching Game of Thrones while his wife hogs the TV!
  • Finally :D

  • another reason i refuse to buy an xbox
  • Why is it that I STILL have to go through a middle man to get something like HBO? Why can't I just pay HBO directly? It's like going to The Apple Store at the mall to download music from iTunes -- it just doesn't make sense.
  • Eastbound and Down and Curb Your Enthusiasm :)

  • Do people still watch hbo?
  • Yeah.....this is stupid.......IF I had HBO on my TV ALREADY! WHY WOULDN'T I WATCH IT ON MY TV AND NOT TURN ON MY XBOX TO DO IT! Now...IF you didn't have HBO this would be nice to have IF I DIDN'T HAVE TO PAY HBO ALREADY TO USE THERE DUMB APP! OR if HBO was smart, LET PEOPLE PAY TO USE HBO GO LIKE NETFLIX AND HULU DOES!
  • HBO needs to move beyond this requirement for a subscription from a local provider.

I would gladly pay $10 bucks a month for HBO Go! to work exclusively on XBL, but I don't have cable and have no intention of going back to those pieces of @#$% at Time Warner Cable. In NYC, you have no choice really, it is TW Cable or nothing at all. My wife and I swore it off and to be honest I didn't even notice. A lot of cable channels are putting their stuff online and between Netflix and Hulu I have absolutely no need for it except for the premium content. Looks like HBO is further digging in to fight the future which is digital distribution. They already won't put their stuff on Netflix Watch Instantly because they want to sell DVDs. Really stupid. I haven't bought a DVD or Blue Ray in 5 years and have no intention of doing so.
  • interesting.

  • So you have to continue to pay your cable/satellite bill, pay for Gold and then turn on your 360? lol. Seems kind of pointless.

  • Finally!

  • IM JUST CURIOUS. CAN I BE ABLE TO WATCH BOXING ON HBO PPV THAT WOULD BE EXTREMELY AWESOME. I WANT TO SEE THAT MAYWEATHER VS COTTO FIGHT ON MY XBOX. NOW THATS AN ENTERTAINMENT
  • I really wish I could just drop $10 a month for access to HBO Go. Don't need the cable channel, I just want it on my 360.
