First Batch Of CoD Elite Premium Content Hits PS3

Activision and Microsoft hashed out a deal before Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's release, which meant that DLC would hit the Xbox 360 before the PS3 and PC versions of the game. Well, now it's time for PlayStation 3 Elite Premium members to get their fix, with the first content drop for the service.

Today marks the release of the Liberation and Piazza maps on the PS3. Here's what Activision has to say about them:

"Call of Duty Elite Drop 1: Liberation, a militarized Central Park in the heart of NYC, features a vast landscape ripe for long-range sniper and LMG kills. Mounted turrets on opposing ends of the map offer overwhelming firepower to anyone brave enough to man them. Elite Drop 2: Piazza, set in an idyllic Italian seaside village getaway gone rogue, offers blind corners and a complex network of branching pathways that pose danger at every turn. Visceral close-quarters combat dominates in Piazza, and attacks from above and below are an ever-constant threat."

If that's not good enough for you, check out our video below for a look at both maps in action.

The next wave of Elite Premium content will be arriving on the PlayStation 3 on March 29, with the release of the Overwatch map, which is set around the construction site of a New York City skyscraper.

  • Hmm, Indeed....

  • These maps should be free to everyone since most gamers paid $200 plus the past 3 years for Call of Duty.
  • I knew that the xbox would get them first but i think it's really bad that those who paid for elite still have to wait as if they didn't pay for anything... Oh well, I have BF3 :) and haven't touched cod since Mw2 (which only lasted a couple of months on my shelf...) I only came here as a PS3 owner.
  • All comments , ms fanboys u retards should have gotten on Xbox, ps3 fan boys and people who don't care , and then the mw3 hater then the fanboys , then the bf3
  • So... how about those of use who didn't feel like spending an extra $50?
  • I might get them.

  • Thankfully I got the Hardened Edition and don't have to pay separately. I knew I would want them in the future to play with friends, so that's why I went ahead and got ELITE (with some additional goodies). :)

  • I don't want to start hate for this game or anything, so don't be all like "Yeah, f*ck MW3!" when I say this please. I was a HUGE fan of COD2, it was the first game I ever bought for my 360 back in the day. I played it for hours upon end after getting off of my 3rd shift job, and COD4 was no different. All I'm saying is, I wish that they could capture that lightning in a bottle again for me. :( Still two of my favorite games of all time, INCLUDING the campaign.
  • I hope these maps offer more than the current assortment, which have been "meh" at best. I especially hate that I've had to wait for DLC to get an actual sniping map. Sometimes I regret paying for the hardened edition as I never really use Elite, so hopefully these maps turn out to be good.
  • Why are we (PS3 owners) getting Overwatch on a Thursday instead of the 27th?
  • Wow, I guess it is quite a lead that Microsoft has for that DLC. Doesn't the Xbox already have the second "drop", or coming soon?
  • call of duty is going to become an mmo soon...first, you bought the game then dlc...now, you're going to pay a membership of $50/year...let's do the math...xbox360, you pay $170/year to play (remember $60 just to play online) CoD...ps3, you $110/year to play...one single game...wow...not worth it...
  • I was not aware that PS3 and PC players are getting their DLC a month or so after the 360. Forget that the maps are worth about an hour of play per, or that DLC packs used to be 4-5 maps, why are people paying for the same service (Elite) getting their DLC at different times? How is it that Microsoft got this kind of deal? Don't get me wrong, I'm a 360 owner and I think it's great that we're getting access to our DLC first, but it doesn't really seem right. I thought Elite members received the maps first (and gratis), not just 360 Elite members. That just smells of some strange sort of stink that, were I a Sony customer, I might be extremely disgusted by.
  • Piazza is a waste of a new map since it's just as horribly congested as the core offerings. Liberation is good fun though. Still haven't gotten to play much of the third map, but I guess that's still on the horizon for the PS3 peeps anyway (still it's better than Piazza).

  • i can't click on hd, anyone else have that problem?

  • Finally!

  • Well, I guess I am off to download it then.

  • Glad to say I'm not playing MW3 that much anymore. Hackers have started to pop up more frequently which is bad enough, but having to wait for premium content despite paying for it just because of my console preference...that was the last straw. I can come up with 20 reasons off the top of my head why PS3 is better, yet it seems the XBOX's financial support is still netting it more stuff. Hell once I get the money I'm getting a gaming computer to play all but PS3 exclusives on, due to it getting a shotgun to the face when it comes to most cross-platform DLC. Sad, strange little world we live in.
  • Worst mistake Ryckert ever made, showing us his gamertag. Let the mass friend requests ensue....
