The lights are on
The developer behind flOw, Flower, and Journey appears to be going multiplatform for the future.
In an interview with Pushsquare.com, co-founder Jenova Chen was asked what's next for his company. He said the team wants to develop games for a "bigger audience" beyond what's offered on PlayStation consoles.
"Thatgamecompany had a three game contract with Sony, so the past three games had to be Sony exclusive," he said. "Right now we are very much exploring ways to bring our games to a bigger audience, beyond just PlayStation.
"We are still in the process of negotiating, but I hope that we can announce it [soon]. But right now it’s still in the process."
Thatgamecompany's community manager chimed in saying: "flOw, Flower, and Journey are all owned by Sony. We won't be porting them over to iOS, Steam, other consoles, etc. If Sony wants to do any of that, they can.
"As for what we'll work on next, we aren't going to announce what will happen until we announce it, so you'll just have to play the waiting game. We are very excited about this new game, just like with flOw, Flower, and Journey."
Journey releases March 13 for PlayStation 3.
Seems like your jumping to conclusions right now? However I hope this is true as their games are perfect for a platform like iOS/Android!
Good to see them expanding platforms.
I like how PlayStation has unique games like the ones they made because I don't think I couldn't have gotten that on 360. Now everyone has an opportunity to experience their next game, I suppose. I can't wait for Journey. ^_^
I wish these games came to Nintendo!
Xbox, Nintendo, Steam, doesn't matter I'm glad these guys are getting out and expanding their catalog. They make wonderful artistic games that definitely deserve the attention of either Microsoft, Nintendo, or Valve.
Glad to see this, indie devs with creative ideas like them need as many avenues to share their games as possible.
I'd love to see them do some work with Nintendo. Perhaps another cell shaded Zelda to go with my HD Zelda?
Huge fan of flow and flower, cant wait for Journey. Its gonna be awesome seeing their amazing and artistic games coming to new platforms.
I complete faith in thatgamecompany. I loved Flower, think it's beyond amazing. i have no doubt's with Journey, nor with any future endeavor's thatgamecompany proceeds with.
Bad news for Sony.
Nice to see an independent developer spreading the wealth. By working on more hardware, they can make more of a name for themselves.
I'm happy that Thatgamecompany is wanting to make multiplatform games because more people can play their awesome games but at the same time it's sad to hear that another company that was working on exclusives for Sony has decided to stop making exclusives for them.
Good, although good for the industry, I cringe at console-exclusivity
This would be great, for them to find a larger audience. I was never really affected though, had a PS3 anyways
Wii U perhaps? It would be interesting to see what they could come up with for the controller.
Love all their games, they really see games as an art style.
