The lights are on
[Update 2]: Nintendo U.S. now says the games are coming this fall.
[Update]: The game has been confirmed for release in North America.
[Original Story] Game Freak's Junichi Masuda announced new Pokemon titles this morning during a Japanese Pokemon television series called Pokemon Smash.
Instead of going in the direction most assumed with Pokemon Gray, Masuda announced Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2. Another surprising part of the announcement is that the games will be releasing for DS, as opposed to the 3DS. Next week Masuda teased that he would reveal the names of the legendary Pokemon that will be featured in the games.
Pokemon Black And White 2 will be releasing in Japan in June. No word on the stateside release, or even a true confirmation that they will come out here, but it's a pretty safe bet that we will see localized versions shortly after they release in Japan.

DS over 3DS?
I'm still waiting for that great console version to come out. A good console pokemon game would be amazing.
I'm glad it is coming to DS (primarily because I have yet to purchase a 3DS)
Ok I am really excited about this now. I do not have a 3ds yet, so I am glad they are not going that route. I have been in need of a good new handheld game for quite some time now so I will definately buy this. I might pick it up on day one.
I'm not into Pokémon anymore, but I understand the appeal. But even the biggest Pokémon fanatics I know are getting sick of the formulaic gameplay. They have to do something to seriously change things up soon.

I already knew about it, but I love Pokemon, so I'm excited!

I never saw this coming...
It has been announced by The official US pokemon site that it is coming to America. Masuda also already announced the legendaries names via twitter which are simply black and white kyurem.
I'm kinda surprised that they decided to do a direct sequel but I'm also interested to see how they handle it. I would love to see new player characters as well as maybe have some more fusion pokemon.
