The lights are on
Research firm Strategy Analytics thinks that the new PlayStation Vita can sell 12.4 million units in 2012. But only if the price tag is cut.
"Sony now is experiencing the same story in Japan [as Nintendo]," says analyst Jia Wu. "Sales of the Wi-Fi version of PlayStation Vita at $249 initially exploded, selling more than 300,000 units in the first week of release. But the new console is barely moving 20,000 units per week in its home market after all the hardcore fans made their purchases, mirroring the experience of the Nintendo 3DS." Therefore, Wu suggests that Sony should further follow in Nintendo's footsteps and cut the price of the Vita to spur sales. Nintendo did that in 2011 for the 3DS, and it's already reaping the rewards.
Regardless, Wu notes that the Vita should do well for Sony, expecting it to bring in $2 billion in hardware and software sales in 2012. In particular, he thinks the unit has the potential to make a lot of money through its PlayStation Store.

The price is not bad, but the games are and the memory is way too expensive. Make a price cut on the games and memory and I'm in!
The vita is too expensive right now in my opinion. I will purchase it when the price drops.
They should hold out a little longer. I thought that the 3DS price cut was much earlier than it needed to be for the device to be successful, and I would hate to see the Vita die too soon.
I would already have one if it was a little cheaper. The memory cards are ridiculously expensive!
I'm still going to wait for the slim. It'll come eventually, and by then there will be a better library of games.
Oh Sony...your price is too high for me, and I'm sure many others. I would buy a Vita if you sliced the price.
That would be nice, maybe it could catch up to the 3DS..but I doubt it.
bought a 3DS back in november after the price drop. Been rocking out on Ocarina of Time, Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7, Star Fox 64 3D, and RE: Revelations. As far as I'm concerned these are the only five games that I really need for this handheld. Obviously I'll get more if they come out with more worthwhile titles. The Vita is looking the exact same. Looks like about 7 awesome titles coming out before the end of the year and a price drop would make the memory card much less of a hit on my wallet
any one know if skype is only on the 3G model
If Sony offers a price drop this year I will get the Vita, but as of now there is no way in hell I'm getting it. The features are amazing, but that doesn't justify paying almost as much for a handheld as I did my PS3. Lower it to $200 MAX, then come back to me.
With the rise of Tablets, Apple, and Android devices. It makes portable devices like this very obsolete. I mean you can get almost the same kind of thrilling gameplay with dishing 250 extra dollars. Sony needs to jump on board or sink and swim.
price cut already? it just got released oh well if it does i might buy it
Yep, because if there is one thing that analyst always are, is right. Seriously, just because Nintendo did it and found success, doesn't mean everyone can do it. On top of that, how much is Sony losing on these things already, a price cut might move units, but its not going to help the bottom line
Might have to get this eventually.
I disagree, insofar as that I don't think that Sony has the position in the portable market to ever get that successful.
FWIW, not impressed with the Vita.
