The lights are on
Research firm Strategy Analytics thinks that the new PlayStation Vita can sell 12.4 million units in 2012. But only if the price tag is cut.
"Sony now is experiencing the same story in Japan [as Nintendo]," says analyst Jia Wu. "Sales of the Wi-Fi version of PlayStation Vita at $249 initially exploded, selling more than 300,000 units in the first week of release. But the new console is barely moving 20,000 units per week in its home market after all the hardcore fans made their purchases, mirroring the experience of the Nintendo 3DS." Therefore, Wu suggests that Sony should further follow in Nintendo's footsteps and cut the price of the Vita to spur sales. Nintendo did that in 2011 for the 3DS, and it's already reaping the rewards.
Regardless, Wu notes that the Vita should do well for Sony, expecting it to bring in $2 billion in hardware and software sales in 2012. In particular, he thinks the unit has the potential to make a lot of money through its PlayStation Store.

If I could get a Vita with a memory card + game for around $300.00 I would most likely (98% sure) get one.But $400.00 + tax is just to much
Think it would be better if they cut the price by 50.00 dollers
Well a price drop would make me willing to buy one, I bought the 3DS at launch and honestly don't regret it at all, mainly because I could still play all of my DS games on it though, that isn't the case with the Vita, so I'm going to be waiting for at least something that makes it enticing, none of the games, with the exception of UMVC3 are very appealing to me, not saying that there aren't other good games, it's just the only one that I would buy, I'm interested in seeing if this happens...
A Vita price cut would be nice. Will it happen soon, most likely not.
Sony is too full of themselves to cut the price, and the fanboys will back them up on this decision. However, it is very poetic and appropriate that it is the fans who will suffer in the end, as the vita continues to do more and more poorly developers will pull from it and the selection of games it has available will be even crappier then it is now. So yes Sony fans, you back your horse and give'em a good pat for staying the course, but just be aware you congratulated your captain for sinking the ship.
LOVE MINE!
Good idea Analyst Wu!! Sony!! You have to cut the price on the Vita! Also, you gotta allow Sega to make more games providing Sonic fans the chance to buy the Vita. That'll help wouldn't it? It should help you a lot Sony!
I agree for a price cut
I'm be fine paying 250 given the tech behind the system.
Sure! Price cut!
And then come out with the cheaper, improved model next year. Yeah. I think I'll wait for that one.
i think a price cut would be nice cause i want but i think the vita is a little expensive.
This is early! That's not a good sign.. isn't it? haha. dang!
Please, Sony, brIng the Vita price down some more and I promise you I will get one.
Surely, a price cut will be mandatory in the months to follow.
bring down the price and bring up the quality of games.
If you want a price cut thats fine but asking for the price to be cut and an upgrade in the games??? that is just greedy... i dont see a single person asking xbox 360 to upgrade the quality, or get free xbox live, and everyone begs to have a stupid price cut on a system that is portable and as good as a tablet, even better... the best tablet out is the asus transformer prime, and its not even the same quality as the ps vita... they have same specs ... almost... the asus transforemer prime has quad core processor, same a vita, and a 1 gig of ram, but the vita has 512megs, but it also has a 128vram which its way better than just normal ram, and it has actual controller buttons unlike the tablet era and the tablet is 500 or more and the ps vita is 250 both wifi versions!!!!!!! stop being greedy just pay the price and deal with it and if you cant buy a stupid crappy phone and see if you like that better if you do then ur stupid bye!!!!
a price cut would be awesome for the consumer
And on another note... it takes 1/10th of the cost to make a nintendo 3ds as it does the ps vita, and the vita could have been sold for way more than it was so its like they had the price drop already at launch, and if you dont believe me, just look at the specs of a 3ds, and a vita, the truth is there, 16megs of vram on a 3ds vs 128 megs of vram on a ps vita, and the 3ds uses 2 cores, and the ps vita at 4... but if no one remembers that the psp wasnt even as cheap as the 3ds when it was being sold 3 months ago do they??? i do and i think that was a fair price, and i think that 249 is a fair price for the ps vita, even if the only dropped the price by 25-50 dollars that is cutting a huge deal seeing how they put everything in this little powerhouse, and are not even charging the price of an ipad, which has a smaller processor in it so look it up and then post your crap talking!!!!!!
