EA Pulls Battlefield 3 iOS App Due To Complaints About Quality

Battlefield 3: Aftershock, a single-map multiplayer-only iOS version of EA's popular shooter, was just released earlier this month, but as of today it is no longer available on the App Store.

IGN reports that EA pulled the game amid low ratings on the App Store and complaints from players about the controls and connectivity issues. EA released this official statement on the removal:

"EA Mobile is committed to delivering mobile entertainment experiences that are on par with the content and quality users have come to expect from their favorite EA gaming brands. To this end, we have decided to remove Battlefield 3: Aftershock from the App Store and are currently re-evaluating the app in response to the consumer feedback we've received. We thank all the fans who have downloaded the game to date."

It's a strange, slightly surprising move, but I'm actually kind of glad to see EA owning up to releasing a bad product and making sure other gamers won't waste time on it.

  • Wow, go EA! Nice to see that they care, but the game was free anyways and I could never play a game because the internet issues...
  • I saw this app and heard it was bad. I'm glad they're dedicated to quality.
  • Now if they would just pull Origin from the internet, the world would be a better place.
  • I'm glad they finally came to their senses.

  • Well good to see they listened to the consumer here, even on a free app.

  • I wouldn't be surprised if most of the complaints came from battlefield fans who expect way too much from an ios first person shooter. It's not ea's fault it sucks...well, I would say its their fault for even attempting to make this game.
  • I am just now aware of its existence.
  • Yeah that's a first.

But it was free?  That explains a lot.

  • Not surprising seeing that the console version of BF3 has connection issues as well.
  • Really glad to see EA not only owning up to their mistake, but also being committed to finding and creating a solution. This is excellent way for publishers to gain a loyal fanbase.
  • Wow, I'm shocked. Now if only they would stop forcing use to buy new games, and put content on their discs on the release date. then I would be happy.

  • What? I was looking for this on the app store for ages and have never been able to see it.

  • I agree with Mr. Kollar. We don't see something like this happen very often, but it's good to see EA has standards and quality control for their products. Especially since it's iOS, because programmers will just have to work that much harder to try and figure out a solution to the issues. Good move.
  • Nice job, that's what should be done. If you put out a bad product it's at least your responsibility to fix it.

  • The sad part is that they even attempted to make a mobile version of Battlefield 3. That thought is why they went wrong. In all honesty though, I hope it is fixed so those who did buy it can get a clean copy and can be less buggy when released on other platforms. Can't wait for it to land on Windows Phone (if they are developing it). :D
  • When will devs learn that virtual controls plus shooter equals fail? It really doesn't matter what you try.

  • shooters on the iphone/ipad is just dumb. but obviously people will pay so there's a market and money to be had.

  • Wow are gamers that picky now over games.

  • Good move on their part.

  • Haha your game sucks
