Sins Of A Dark Age Announced

The follow-up to Ironclade Games' Sins of a Solar Empire is in development, the studio confirmed today.

The new strategy game, called Sins of a Dark Age, is a new franchise and not related to Sins of a Solar Empire in any way. The gameplay centers on players choosing either a Hero role or the Commander role. Hero will face enemies on the front line while Commander focuses more on planning, building, and positioning of troops.

“Sins of a Dark Age is something totally unique in the strategy genre,” said Blair Fraser, co-founder and producer at Ironclad. “Like Sins of a Solar Empire, which blended 4x with real-time strategy, we’ve taken our favorite elements of traditional RTS and action RTS and added our own twists and turns that result in a completely new and unrivalled strategy experience.”

The game's FAQ published on its website notes there is no set release date. A beta is scheduled for this summer, however. You can register for the beta on the website.

  • Hmm... Sounds like an interesting play style. So either we can play the Hero on the front lines or the role of a Commander/General back at base. The question is, couldn't we be both? :D
  • This sounds really interesting.....and if it's free to play why the hell wouldn't I give it a spin?
  • If this game is as good or better than sins of a solar empire Its going to be awesome.
  • Very excite. Sins of a Solar Empire is one of my favorite RTS's of all time, and I am very excited for whatever Ironclad comes up with next.

  • Sounds like Mount&Blade.

  • I'm not sure how "totally unique" it is to be able to choose between being the hero on the field or being the commander/general in the background considering there's mods and user-created content for games like Neverwinter Nights and older FPS's like Quake and Unreal Tournament that have similar setups.

But hey...If people like the game and the premise who am I to judge?

  • Looks interesting, ill listen to buzz before i buy though.

  • interesting

    sign me up!

  • Mount&Blade with magic/mythical creatures? Sounds awesome!

  • Maybe it's not the most polished RTS out there, but Sins of a Solar Empire is still my all time favorite in the genre.  I am very excited about this new title!

  • The concept sounds fantastic, so we'll have to look forward to seeing actual content etc.

Maybe I'll actually join in some competitive gaming for once. :) If Ironclad's track record with SOASE is any indication (especially taking into account their communication with the gamers), this game will sure be worth the time and money to be involved in.

  • YES! ive been discussing the concept of a game like this for a while now where one person commands an army from above and players are heroes with abilities and whatnot. absolutely cant wait for this! thanks for ripping off my idea ironclad i couldn't be happier!

now someone make a shooter version. that would be insane!

  • I was pretty excited about this based on the title being an avid RTS fan, and I would love to see how they traverse from galactic warfare into Medieval warfare, however the "hero" thing never seems to work, so my interest has lowered substantially, here's to hoping it's as good as Sins of a Solar Empire.

  • I've been eyeing Sins of a Solar Empire since I built my PC. Should I get this game?
