No Fight Night Planned For 2012

Given the popularity of Fight Night Champion (shown), it's no wonder that fans are clamoring for more from the series. They're going to get it, but not this year.

We contacted a spokesperson at EA Sports who told us the series is still going, but nothing was on the docket just yet. "We remain committed to the Fight Night franchise, but have no announcements regarding it at this time."

Fight Night Champion (click for the review) released last March, and given that it came out two years after Fight Night Round 4, we can only hope that 2013 brings another game in the franchise. I for one am not necessarily disappointed that we won't be stepping into the ring this year. If the team takes the time to craft another game as good as Champion, it'll be worth the wait.

  • Madden is what should take a year off. I thing being a bi-annual franchise would really help re-invigorate that series. They could replace the yearly release with a DLC, that updates the roster and maybe add a new mode or something.
  • Glad to see they're not bleeding the franchise dry. Fight Night Champion was pretty solid. I'd like a new one, but it's good to be able to take a breath between releases. Plus, the holiday season has my backlog piled floor to ceiling.

  • I hope this is a sign of things to come... Quality over quantity.

  • It most certainly will be worth the wait. Champion mode was excellent, and I hope they use the time to craft another great story.
  • good. there doesn't need to be one every year, otherwise it'll grow stale. still having fun with champion, lets leave it at that and hold off another 2 or 3 years to release a new one.

  • i am literally devastated.

  • this is good news so they can polish the next game as much as possible.

  • Ubisoft needs to do the same thing and take some extra time to make Assassin's Creed 3 as good as possible...good for you EA
  • Great, I usually want 2 years between franchise games.

  • If only the same thing happened with Madden and Call of Duty

  • Oh well? The only sports games I would even consider playing right are baseball, tennis, and possibly golf. I just suck at Madden and basketball games, and never picked up a boxing game because it doesn't seem like it would be very invigorating.
  • Good I'm glad they realize that they only sold people half a game and maybe this time they're be working just as hard on the other half.

  • Well I'm glad the EA finally realized they sold us only half a game and now maybe they'll work even harder on the other half.
  • At least they're taking the time to improve the game.

  • now if only they'd bring back the stick controls from previous fight nights the next one might actually be worth playing.

  • I think the main problem for this game going forward is the dying sport of Boxing. MMA has easily overtaken Boxing as the most popular competitive fighting sport in the US. I'm not sure how a Boxing game will remain relevant when the actual sport is not.
  • Fight Night Champion was a huge disappointment to me being a fan since the first Knockout Kings. I'm a Fight Night Community Leader and many of the fans of this series was looking for more in the way of realism.

THQ captured MMA 2 out 3 times. Fight Night Champion was praised more by critics and arcade fighter(Tekken, Mortal Combat, Street Fighter, etc) fans. Fight Night needs to take the same route NBA 2K, MLB The Show and sim/realism approaching games.

I have given the producers well written and documented wishlists. Many of the ideas are mines and other boxing fanatics. I'm thinking the EA Producers don't think realism sells because they take ideas and make them an arcade/sim hybrid.

I know for a fact Fight Night lost many fans because they didn't focus on the overall game. The focus was on the Casual fan friendly Champion Mode.

  • I agree. They oughta take their time to make an amzing game.

  • Good news, finally.

  • Sad but True, (Metallica anyone?). If they are taking an extra year to create the game, then it'll be worth the wait. But how can the boxing mechanics get any better?
