New Official Skyrim App Available For iOS

Just a mere three months after The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim released to the world, Prima Games is finally putting out an official companion map app for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. And it's free! Kind of.

There are a lot of unauthorized Skyrim apps out there. The official one is titled "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Official World Interactive Map" and is published by Random House Digital. The entire world map and 9 capital cities all come with the initial free download. You can zoom on the world map to a stunning 3200 percent.

There are 15 different $.99 map add-ons including things like marriage prospects, shrines, unique items, and unusual gems. Or you can simply buy everything for $9.99. The base map seems to work pretty well even on my small iPhone screen and I imagine the iPad version is even better. If you're still playing Skyrim, give the free download a chance and see if it'll be useful for what you're looking for. The base app clocks in at 102 MB.

  • It sucks that it's not out for Android.
  • The map looks pretty sweet just for the basic free version. But I can't see myself spending $10 to unlock that other information that you could just look up on the internet for free.
  • Hmm... My friend has gotten kind of obsessed with drawing Skyrim's environment, so he'd probably enjoy this quite a bit

  • Interesting. Very interesting

  • Anyone think that we might ever get a full 3D port/release of an elder scrolls or fallout game for either iOS or the PSVita?
  • Really. 10$... skyrim wikia is free, and has the same info. Gamefaqs has the same info but in user created FAQs. Stop wasting money on crap, please. No wonder nothing is made to last. The news cries recession while people still spend billions on digital products like this.
  • lol, lame. Skyrim wikia all the way.

You'd have to be really dumb to pay for this.

  • 10 bucks for something you can easily find out for free? I'll pass

  • now i just need an ipad

  • I like it, it's completely pointless, but I like it.

  • I can't see myself paying for this when I have a laptop always within arms reach.
  • So it's basically pointless then?
  • True Nords never use maps!
  • That's kind of bullcrap.

  • "If you're still playing skyrim"...when does one stop playing skyrim?
  • Its all hyped up that its free then you half to buy add-on stuff lol.I might download the free part the rest Ill find out on the computer.

  • Unless I hear of a release for Android this week, they can rest assured that they won't be getting my money ever.  I don't understand why apps aren't rolled out at the same damn time.  I know more people with Android devices than I do with POS iOS devices.

  • No thanks. I already have the map I got with the official strategy guide. Not to mention the map I got for pre-ordering the game, which I framed and hanged over my T.V. turned moniter.

  • I don't need this app. I luckily bought the strategy guide which comes with a awesome map.

  • android!
