3DS Fastest To 5 Million In Japan

In 52 weeks, the Nintendo 3DS handheld has gone from outhouse to penthouse as the system is the fastest system in Japan to hit the five million sold mark.

Despite its rocky beginning necessitating an unplanned price cut from Nintendo, Media Create sales figures in Japan report that the 3DS has sold five million units in 52 weeks.

This breaks the previous record set by the Nintendo DS, at 56 weeks.

Looks like the Vita is having the vida sucked out of it before it even has a chance to make it...hum. I hope it still sells though; poor Sony needs the money.

I was really worried about the 3DS initially. I had friends saying it was a total disaster, comparing it to Virtual Boy(They were really extreme, it was never that bad). It definitely has a sizable library of good games now and growing. But, the battery life is a turn off still. I'm definitely picking up a 3DS Lite or whatever they're going to call it, and I'm sure there sales will spike up even more.
