Witcher Dev Discusses Next-Gen Plans

The developer behind The Witcher series is setting its sights on 2014 and 2015 for release of its next-generation games.

Speaking to Eurogamer, CD Projekt Red managing director Adam Badowski said his studio has two major, multiplatform titles planned for release on next-generation consoles and PC.

"We are definitely starting for new consoles," he said, later clarifying the team does not have next-gen development kits yet. "The market is ready for something new,"  added head of marketing Michal Platkow-Gilewski, "for something faster, more powerful."

One of the two games is a brand new RPG with a second team working on it. The other is likely The Witcher 3, though CD Projekt Red isn't saying anything about it. "Give us some time; I'm sure we will announce it pretty fast in the following months, but we want to do everything in the proper order. And right now we are focused on polishing and bringing the Enhanced Edition to Xbox 360 and PC," Platkow-Gilewski added.

  • Honest and open...I like it.

  • Awesome news! Just knowing, that they're considering/started production for the next gen systems is exciting to hear.
  • Looking forward to playing Witcher 2. I'm not big on skipping the first game in a series, but I don't have a lot of options.
  • I'm glad that CDProjekt seems to be doing well. I love The Witcher games and thus will gladly follow CDProjekt to the ends of the earth. Unless their games start becoming crappy. Then I won't.
  • Good thing their games already look a generation beyond the current standard. Witcher 2 has incredible graphics.

  • What about bringing the Witcher 2 over to the PS3 first?
  • oh CD Projekt, you have won me over with the greatness of the Witcher 2. can't wait for your next stuff. hopefully i'll have truly ballin' hardware by 2014.

  • Tell me when and for what you want your money CDPR and it will be yours.

Explanation - The Witcher games do have their flaws but they're so astonishingly unique and well made. They take some concepts you see everywhere and really..believe in them, for a lack of a better word. NO half-hearted attempts here. There are anti-heroes, then there's Geralt. There's morality systems, then there's the Witcher's. There's splitting story paths..then there's the Witcher's(especially #2)!

The political and philosophical undertones, the uniquely motivated antagonists, the art direction, it all just comes together to really make the game's story exceed beyond expectations.

We always have to keep our brand loyalties in check to be sure we don't just gobble up anything, but I seriously cannot wait to see what CDPR does next. (Bring on the drowners, witcher 3.)
  • Can't wait for this game on the 360!

  • GI, please choose another image for articles related to The Witcher. D: The characters in your image look so...weird.
  • I never got into the Witcher games because my computer cant handle games like that but I will most definitely check it out when it comes out on Xbox.

  • As much praise as CD Projekt Red has gotten for it's The Witcher series, I'm sure whatever secret projects they're working on is awesome. I really hope CD Projekt Red brings The Witcher 2 to the PS3 but if they don't, I'll just play it on the Xbox 360.

  • Awesome, I'd love to see what these guys come out with in the near future

  • Definitly anticipating CD Projekt's future title's. If any company can lead off the new console gen well they'll be the ones.

  • Curious to see what they'll do with the next gen tech, considering they obviously know how to use the current one.

  • Makes me wonder how we will look back on this console gen...

  • either way this is good news...now we just need to see how much the new consoles and games will cost...

  • Fingers crossed they're doing a sci-fi rpg.
  • Witcher 3... please...

  • CD Projekt Red = WIN
