The Best-Selling HD Remasters At Retail

by Jim Reilly on Feb 17, 2012 at 10:14 AM

The God of War Collection remains the best-selling HD remaster to date.

With the help of retail tracking firm NPD, we put together a top 10 list of best-selling HD remaster games released in the U.S. so far at retail.

The list does not include download sales, however. Most HD remasters are now available digitally through PlayStation Network and Xbox Live. Download-only titles like Resident Evil 4 HD and Beyond Good & Evil HD are absent from this list for that reason.

Here is the list ranked by most units sold:

  1. God Of War I & II Collection (Nov. 2009)
  2. Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary (Nov. 2011)
  3. Metal Gear Solid HD Collection (Nov. 2011)
  4. The Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection (Sept. 2011)
  5. The Sly Collection (Nov. 2010)
  6. God of War: Origins Collection (Sept. 2011)
  7. Tomb Raider Trilogy (Mar. 2011)
  8. Prince Of Persia Trilogy (Apr. 2011)
  9. Tekken Hybrid (Nov. 2011)
  10. Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Trilogy (Sept. 2011)

“High definition re-masters are a great way for publishers to dive into their back catalog, polish up the old favorites, and meet the needs of two groups: gamers who missed out on these classics; and those gamers who nostalgically remember these games and want to experience them again in HD," said NPD analyst Liam Callahan.

With other HD re-releases coming in 2012, such as the Jak and Daxter Collection, the Devil May Cry HD Collection, and Final Fantasy X HD, we'll keep this list updated throughout the year and beyond.
