[Update: Solved!] What's Atlus Teasing With This Mysterious Image?

[Update]

As we wrote in the original story below, the most likely explanation for this teaser image seemed to be confirming that Atlus was bringing Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena (a 2D fighting game) to the States. In the comments to this story, GI reader Michael Braiser observantly spotted the similarity between the graphics behind the "Stay Tuned" in the picture and the logo for the game. As you can see, the "shattering" pattern in the logo is an exact match. Thanks Michael!

[Original Story]

We just received an email from Atlus, which appeared to contain nothing but a large black box. The subject line was equally minimal, reading "_____." However, there's more to the picture.

My colleague Phil Kollar dropped the .jpg file of the black box into Photoshop, and tweaked the contrast to reveal the image you see below, which has some angular graphics and the words "Stay Tuned." Obviously it's a teaser of some sort, but what? The most obvious thing would be the announcement that the company is indeed bringing Persona-themed 2D fighting game being developed by Arc System Works to America, but we can't say for sure. Surely some observant reader knows the answer.

  • Persona 5?
  • OVERBLOOD 3!!!!!
  • Next GI cover I think?

  • It's Atlus. it's sure to be pretty weird yet awesome. it usually is.

  • Overblood 3?
  • I'm an Atlus fan, I'll give it a go...

Doesn't seem particularly "Persona-ish" to me. Personally, I think it's something new and unique, like Catherine was, which has me excited =D
  • How did you guys figure that out? But anyway cool concept.

  • Obviously there's an explosion coming from the right so it has to be something awesome.

  • It's probably a game. Where you can walk around. And you can play it. Maybe.
  • Overblood 3!!!!!!
  • The first thing I thought when I saw that was Persona. Perhaps they plan on releasing Persona 4: The Golden (Remake of Persona 4 on Vita) in America?
  • When I saw the picture, the first thing I thought of was Spy vs. Spy. Maybe?
  • 3D Dot Game Heroes 2 -- Calling it right now!
  • Definitely, Persona related. There's so many Persona projects going on right now who knows.

  • Overblood 3!
  • Overblood reboot or a new SMT game.
  • The seemingly broken glass image in the background is part of the Persona 4 fighting game logo. It most likely has to do with that game. Fingers crossed for a US release, which wasn't unlikely in the first place.

  • Persona 5 thank you very much.
  • *closes eyes and crosses fingers* "Persona, persona, persona, persona, persona, persona"
  • Stay tuned makes me think it's a persona 4 vita announcement, but it would be so awesome if it was the official unveiling of persona 5
