Jak & Daxter Retrospective Looks Back On The Series And The New HD Collection

by Kyle Hilliard on Feb 16, 2012 at 03:44 AM

Sony and 2 Player Productions have put together an interesting retrospective on the development of the original Jak & Daxter and its recent complicated translation to the PlayStation 3.

The 18-minute documentary has interviews with the original Naughty Dog founders and Jak and Daxter creators Andrew Gavin and Jason Rubin, as well conversations with animators, programmers of the original game. One of the most interesting highlights is the team's adoration for Super Mario 64. It's easy to see that Jak & Daxter was inspired by Nintendo's original 3D platformer, but I never realized just how much.

2 Player Productions also spoke with Mass Media, the development company behind the Jak & Daxter HD Collection. Apparently, bringing the game to the PlayStation 3 was more difficult than any of us may have realized.

Check out the excellent retrospective below.
