Mass Effect 3 PC Won't Support Controllers

Mass Effect PC fans will have to put away their controllers when the game comes out next month.

BioWare confirmed the upcoming RPG will not support controllers and instead only use mouse and keyboard. "The PC version does not support controllers," said community manager Chris Priestly. "They may or may not work, but they are unsupported by the game."

Mass Effect 3 drops on March 6.

  • wow....you'd think a game this big would support a controller.
  • I don't like controllers. Each console has their own unique controller, and the PC's is the most advanced. Another controller would kill that for me.
  • lol
  • Huh, that's surprising. Maybe EA is secretly developing their own exclusive version to reap sole profits. The Origin pad!
  • ouch, uncalled for bioware

  • I'm getting it for PC, and plan to use a mouse and keyboard. I could be wrong, but I don't see why anyone would plan to use a controller for a PC game. It kind of defeats the purpose. Adding a controller feature wasn't exactly in high demand when Microsoft first announced Games for Windows.
  • I'm really hoping this means it's not a console port, but a proper pc game with good customization options. it was painful trying to play ME2 on my pc when there wasn't even a mouse sensitivity option.
  • "Inserts conspiracy about how EA is developing their own PC controller."
  • That's just... stupid.

  • haha i cannot play pc games

  • Getting it for the PS3, but I can see how this might not be the best news for some PC players.
  • Huh, thats a really odd choice. Maybe it was buggy or something.
  • Luckily I'm grabbing it for the Xbox.

  • I thought PC gamers talked endless smack because they used keyboards and mouses anyways? So why care if they can't use controllers?
  • Who cares? Isn't the reason we play on PC because we prefer KeyMouse configs?
  • thats just idiotic in this day and age -_-

  • Well, there's always XPadder to map your controller to keyboard and mouse movements. For those that do use controllers, there's your saving grace.
  • Welcome back to the 20th century. Feeling nostalgic, Bioware?

Seriously though, for a huge Triple A title such as this, further segregating what will already be the platform minority is a combination of laziness and bad business technique. Also, I don't know how the rest of you see this, but to me it just seems like they really aren't appreciating their PC fans.

As easy as it would be to configure the Xbox 360 controller to this game, there really is no excuse for it. Even if you are a mouse and key player, the fact that they aren't providing the option to use a controller is enough to warrant concern of just how much they actually care.

It's a shame to see this from such an experienced developer and one of my long-time favorites.
  • Sounds dissapointing.

  • Ok... why exactly? Are they too lazy to do so or something? Doesn't really effect me since I always use the mouse and keyboard, it's just so much more precise. Though for those who want to chill out and lay down this is going to suck.
