Far Cry 3 Cinematic Trailer Reveals Release Date And Story Details

[Update] Ubisoft has been kind enough to offer the trailer directly so you no longer have to scrounge around the Internet to find the version with German subtitles. The trailer also has the North American release date for the game.

Far Cry 3 will be releasing September 4, and will apparently include four additional missions when pre-ordered from GameStop. Check out the trailer below.

[Original story] A German site let loose a cinematic trailer for Far Cry 3 that technically wasn't supposed to be available yet. There was no gameplay to be seen, but it did offer some plot details, a release date, and an interesting haircut for the player character.

According to the trailer formerly featured on allgamebeta.com, Far Cry 3 will be releasing September 6, but that could just be the European release date. It looks like the game will put players in the shoes of a kidnapped, presumably college-aged young adult who looks like he would have no problem referring to his pals as "bro" without the slightest hint of irony.

Unfortunately, the trailer has already been pulled, but it should be officially available soon.

  • I just watched the trailer and im wondering how he got his shooting and throwing knife skills.. he seems like a kid that wouldn't know too much about killing people.. hope they can back that up.
  • Yess yes! This is my most anticipated goty behind GTA V. It totally took me by suprise when it was announced
  • Has there been any indication as to whether or not this uses CryEngine 3 or a newer engine? They usually place that at the beginning of their trailers.
  • Another lush tropical environment. Another accidental protagonist stumbles upon paradise BY BOAT only to find the place crawling with mercs. No doubt when he tries to escape the island someone contacts him wanting his help. Yeah I'm buying this game day one. Love me the far cry series.
  • hehe "bro"

  • bro come on

  • Far Cry 3 Starring: young Nathan Drake as Jason Brody
  • I really hope they don't go the highly scripted root of many shooters today. Far Cry 2 was unique because of the freedom and immersion, even if it may have caused boredom in some parts.

  • Awesome!Getting excited for this!

  • 9!

  • I'm not usually a fan of FPS but this looks great!

  • The trailer at E3 they showed for this game had one of the best antagonists I have ever seen in a game. Whoever did the voice acting for the "Do you know the definition of Insanity" guy was pitch perfect and without even playing the game I already think he is one of the most memorable bad guys in game history.
  • Can someone please explain to me why this is a good game? im noticing i can download farcry 2 for free on PSN. is this game really that awesome? inquiring mind would like to know
  • Lame.  Leave it up to build hype, duh!

  • I hated 2.

  • Don't you guys usually link to some previous coverage? I'd love to see some, kinda excited for this game.

  • I don't really care for Far Cry anymore. Felt it was more interesting when Ubi Soft was doing the "Predator" stuff with the franchise. But when they decided to replace that with generic open world blandness for FC2, they lost me. At least they understood the whole "Far cry from your typical shooter environment" idea that's the crux of the franchise - first the jungle islands of the first game, and then the african savannah; that could have been interesting. It wasn't, but whatever - good try. Wonder where they'll go next?
  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iY_3Dxf__sw Here's the trailer, if anyone's interested. You seem to play a frat kid who moonlights as Jason Bourne. I was expecting a war reporter from the first trailer, so, not sure how I feel about this.
  • wow... Dubstep On The Trailer...
