New Call Of Duty Title Coming This Year

File this one under news that should surprise no one: Activision has announced plans to release a new Call of Duty title in 2012.

The non-news comes from today's Activision-Blizzard conference call, during which Bobby Kotick announced the company will be releasing a new Call of Duty title before year's end. No other information was given, but if Activision follows its normal plan, the title will likely be developed by Treyarch, released in the second week of November, and outsell the previous year's Call of Duty by a few million copies. It will likely also have zombies in it. It's like I can see the future!

While I'll admit that MW2 and the original were hits, it seems that now Activision is twice as determined to drive this stellar franchise into the ground. You can only go so far with the current consoles and stories for each, as MW3 showcased with its short and much-cliched campaign. The stories have almost all been written, and as you guys have said- what next?- Moon Warfare, Modern Submarine? Seriously. ;-)

But seriously I'm really happy that Activision has determined a successful framework for an annual release schedule that doesn't reduce game quality or overall sales. The huge sales from Call of Duty gets the hardware into more households, even if they purchase on 3-5 games yearly. And more players helps the existing players in many ways.

What they don't say is that Treyarch is attempting to innovate greatly in some way with this one. I'll buy it just for zombies though.

And just think of all the people who will by it because it's called Call of Duty. Seriously Activision? MW3 just came out in November. Now you are going to be putting out another one in about a years time? Guess who isn't going to buy it, me! I'm not even done with MW3 completely.
