13 Million People Downloaded Jetpack Joyride

Jetpack Joyride developer Halfbrick continues to see success with its latest iOS game.

Chief marketing officer Phil Larsen told Game Informer the studio has seen over 13 million downloads of the game through the App since going free-to-play in late December. Before then, paid downloads of the App were over 1 million.

“We just couldn’t hold it in any longer. We wanted more people to play it," he said. “We make more money now as a free game then as a paid game.” In Jetpack Joyride, players can spend money on in-game coins to unlock content faster instead of collecting them within the game.

In its first day as a free game, Jetpack Joyride saw 770,000 downloads. Larsen said Halfbrick is working on another free update for the game over the next month.

  • It's one of the most addicting iOS games I've played. Kinda would like to see more levels with more interesting enemies than just lasers and rockets, though.
  • Staff

That's not enough, it's never enough!

  • Nice idea, but got bored fast, and couldn't find any use for the stuff you buy, nothing actually fun.

A friend "beat it" and was "challenged" to go through it again... which to me it's the ultimate way for a game to tell me it sucks...

Good thing it was free at least.

  • This is a great game to quickly pick up and play when you need to kill 10 minutes.

  • Just downloaded this last night. I can already tell I'm going to be playing this obsessively in my free time (and maybe also in class)

  • Cool!

  • It's one of the best iOS games out there.  It's certainly one of my favorites, but WHAT HAPPENED TO MY PROGRESS!?!  I have all my money, jetpacks and costumes, but my levels and badges are gone!

  • Fun game to kill time, I play it instead of paying attention in my absurdly boring Linear Algebra class. Any time someone tells me that their class is going to be super boring I give up on trying to learn anything while attending it.

  • I hate this game. I put over 15 hours in it and was about level 104 and out of nowhere it reset everything. My stats, my achievements, badges, everything. Then I deleted it out of anger. Buck this game.

  • I thought monkeyrun did better

  • "... as a free game [than] a paid game." Omg that really bothered me.
  • Good for them. I'm among the 1 million that paid for it, and don't mind at all; money well spent. I haven't spent any money on in-game coins, though. I just can't justify paying for things that I could just earn by playing the game.

  • JJ got me through many long car rides and sits on the deer stand - great game!

  • So i never played this game, but that character looks like a grown up Jimmy Neutron.

  • another successful strategy

  • I am one of the 13 million, and proud.

  • My brother has it, and it is awesome. (I don't have an Ipod. Don't see a good reason. My mp3 player does what I want it to.)

  • Count me in as one of 13 million

  • I have this game and it's fun.

  • This is my favorite iPod game. Games like this are perfect for the platform. Simple and addicting.
