10th Annual Game Audio Network Guild Awards Set For GDC

The many talented individuals creating music, sound effects, and other audio elements of games will get their day in the sun on March 8th.

The G.A.N.G. is celebrating its 10th anniversary during a year characterized by some remarkable steps forward in audio presentation in games. Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, L.A. Noire, Star Wars: The Old Republic, and Portal 2 were just some of the standout games setting new bars for quality and innovation within the field. Those same games, and many others, will be highlighted at the G.A.N.G. Awards in San Francisco on March 8th as part of the larger Game Developers Conference that will be occurring at the same time.

  • Nice list, soooo many categories.

  • Audio: Dead Space 2 - Music: L.A. Noire (Though i haven't played a good number of those games)- Sound Design: Gears 3 - Sound Track: Star Wars - Best Interactive: Portal 2 - Handheld Audio: R.E. Revelations - Audio for Casual, Ect.: Bastion - Best Cinematic / cutscene audio: Crysys 2 (Definitely) - Best Dialog: L.A. Noire (But for how the Facial animations matched perfectly with them) - That is all I'll comment on My Personal opinion.

  • I haven't played enough of these to give a fair judgement. Having said that, Battlefield 3 should win for all Audio/sound effects categories. Prob not for music or voice acting, but in game audio cannot be beat.
  • While I'm sure the songs are deserving of the category, did anybody else chuckle when they Kinect Disneyland Adventures and Kinectimals Gold on the nominees list?

  • Uncharted 3 and Portal 2 were the best games on that list.
  • The only thing that I have any sort of opinion on is that Audio of the Year should go to Battlefield 3.
  • Man, uncharted is everywhere, but my money is on battlefield three dominateing.

  • Minecaraft for best music ever in a video game

  • Audio of the year-Gears of War 3, Music of the year-Skyrim, Sound design of the year-Gears of War 3, Best soundtrack album-Skyrim, Best interactive score-Uncharted 3, Best handheld audio-Infinity Blade 2, best audio in casual/indie/social game-Bastion, Best cinematic/cutscene audio-Gears of War 3, Best dialogue-Uncharted 3 or Portal 2, Best original instrumental-Dead space 2, Best original vocal/choral-Skyrim, best original vocal pop-Plants vs Zombies, best audio mix-Crysis 2, best use of licensed music-Rocksmith, The last one I can't judge.

  • I would be seriously disappointed if Lacrimosa doesn't win. Also, I'd love to know what the difference is between Music of the Year, and Soundtrack Album of the Year.

  • Oh, no love for Portal's "Exile Vilify" in Licensed Music? Ah well, at least "Want You Gone" is there.

  • Bastion with only one nomination?  Madness!

  • Bastion isn't nominated for Best Soundtrack? I SPIT ON THESE AWARDS. No, but seriously, Bastion's soundtrack was phenomenal.
  • My choices: Portal 2/ Skyrim/ BF3/ Portal 2/ Infinity Blade II/ Bastion/ BF3/ Portal 2/ Deus Ex/ Skyrim/ Portal 2/ Arkham City/ Shift 2
  • Dragon Age 2 actually had a really good soundtrack too.

  • Many are big winners to me already.  Hard to choose.

  • Portal 2 for Audio and Dialog.  It made the game, and that game was one of last year's best.

  • LittleBIGPlanet 2 for best use of licensed music!! Woo!!! Wait, what do you mean I'm the only one excited about that category?
  • Great list of nominations! I always love the music in games and know all the hard work put into it. Everyone is deserving, can't wait to see who wins.

  • Seriously!!! No love for Zelda? Thats just wrong
