The lights are on
The Xbox 360 was the best-selling gaming console in 2011, according to data compiled in a new report.
According to GeekWire.com, which collected data from public earnings reports, says Microsoft sold more Xbox 360 consoles than the Nintendo Wii and PlayStation 3 for the calendar year. This marks the first time the Xbox 360 lead console hardware sales for the year since 2006 when the PS3 and Wii first launched.
In 2011, Microsoft sold 14.9 million units compared with 14.1 million for the PS3 and 10.33 million for the Wii. For the holiday quarter, Microsoft took the lead with 8.2 million consoles sold where Sony sold 6.5 million PS3s and Nintendo with 5.6 million Wiis during the same period.
Life-to-date, Nintendo Wii still leads everyone with 95 million Wiis
sold compared with 66 million Xbox 360s for Microsoft and 62 million PS3s
is that why Microsoft is holding off on the 720 this year at E3
im guessing the sales of the consoles was contributed to all the amazing games of last year.
Great to hear
I love my Xbox. Never had any problems with it. The only reason i bought a new one was mine was five years old and I had some extra cash. thank you micro soft for putting out a quality console.
This isn't surprising. I thought the gap between Sony and Micro console sales would have been wider.
This is simply people who already have had a 360 needing to buy a new one since their old one broke or overheated. Most people in the U.S. already own a 360 (or have owned several of them).
The Wii sold like hotcakes for the first few years. So it is logical once again why Nintendo has seen a huge decrease in system sales because everyone has had one and either traded it in or still kept it (and since Nintendo products don't break those people still have the original system).
Sony is still seeing new customer come into the fray for PS3. But it's a steady stream that isn't due to breaking systems or everyone already owning one. It's just people that are giving in to making the purchase finally after seeing the exclusives really start to focus their attention solely on Sony's console.
I've had my 360 since 2006. Never had one problem, it vents like a beast though...
