Ubisoft Server Migration Will Take Some Of Its Games Offline

Ubisoft is moving its games from a "third-party data" center to a new in-house facility. On February 7th, as the transfer happens, most of its games will not be playable online -- and some won't be playable at all.

Six Ubisoft games will not be playable in any form on February 7th. Here is the complete list:

-- Assassin's Creed - Mac

-- Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. 2 - PC

-- Might & Magic: Heroes VI - PC

-- Splinter Cell: Conviction - Mac

-- The Settlers 7: Path to a Kingdom - PC

-- The Settlers - Mac

Alternately, five Ubisoft games will not be affected by the transfer at all:

ANNO 2070 - PC

Assassin's Creed Revelations - OnLive, PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3

Driver: San Francisco - OnLive, PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3

Just Dance 3 - Xbox 360

The Settlers Online - PC (web-based)

NOTE: Ubisoft says that the online modes of all the games not mentioned in these list WILL be affected by the server migration.

  • is this cuz of drm? if so yet another reason to not have that kind of drm [talking about the games not playable at all]
  • are any xbox games being affected by this? and i dont understand Ubisoft says that the online modes of all the games not mentioned in these list WILL be affected by the server migration. does this mean servers will be down or completely shutdown?
  • I would usually be upset by this, but there's not really a title worth shedding a tear over.
  • Dang. Hope they make that transition quick, people who aren't informed will most likely flip :P

  • so in this case are torrents justified? i mean the only way to crack those kinds of games are to make them playable offline.
  • Thanks for the heads up now i now what not to play on the seventh, assassins creed.

  • Some games wont be playable at all? Thats kinda messed up for the people who actually paid for the game
  • Wow thats crazy, you can't even play brotherhood online anymore, that came out like 14 months ago. I guess that's one way to force fans to get Revelations
  • That stinks, for people who purchased a game, to suddenly not be able to play it. Hopefully, they give their customers something for this(physical copy maybe?). I'd be a little ticked off, if I had purchased any of those games that are unplayable after Feb.7th.
  • No idea AC1 was on Mac.  That was a good title, if a bit of a pain towards the endgame.

  • I don't even play Ubisoft games anymore.

  • Ah the failures of the digital age.
  • Wait...I bought AC2 for the MAC on steam....does this mean I cant play it anymore? Or is this just for the first one?
  • NO NOODLES FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Only a few Xbox and PS3 :D

  • Do people not read anymore.... "MOVING its games FROM a "third-party data" center TO a new in-house facility. On February 7th, as the TRANSFER happens"
  • good luck on the move.

BTW, For more on this kind of "Dying Games" phenomenon, be sure to check out Jeff Marchiafava's article on this in the March issue. Very interesting stuff. Unfortunately.
  • Do people not get that they won't be playable at all or online while the transfer is taking place. After that they'll be up again. Kato writes, "Ubisoft is moving its games from a "third-party data" center to a new in-house facility. On February 7th, as the TRANSFER HAPPENS, most of its games will not be playable online -- and some won't be playable at all.
  • Um... why should it effect the single player portion of the games. Sounds like some kind of bulls*** to me, and I'm calling jewfins.
