The lights are on
Sony today confirmed the digital version of PlayStation Vita games will cost a little less than the retail counterparts.
In Japan, digital Vita games already carry a discount in price - nearly $10. But what about other regions? A SCEA representative confirmed to Game Informer the prices would indeed be cheaper in North America, but would not say by how much.
"There will be a discount," Sony said. "Exact details will be revealed in the very near future." A user on NeoGAF published a screenshot of Best Buy's release list that shows download games will be $5 cheaper than retail copies, but that price reduction has not been confirmed by Sony.
PlayStation Vita launches in North America and Europe on February 22.
i prefer the retail version due to the fact I collect the games. There is nothing like opening a brand new game having that new game smell. DIGITAL GAMES SMELL...DIGITAL!
Hopeing for a $10 price difference!!
I love physical copies. WTF why not just make both copies the same
This way they make sure we buy their expensive memory cards.
This is possibly the most effective way to combat the used game market any major game company has come up with yet.
I don't care if downloads are cheaper as long the memory cards continue to be so expensive.
Yea its cheaper but should i pay 30 more bucks for a new memory card?
They may discount these downloadable versions, but of course you'll then have to have a bigger card for your Vita.
$5 is not much of a discount.
honestly, everyone knows the only reason this is being done is to counter 3rd party dealers like gamestop. i would only use this for a game like hot shots golf so you can access it better. but otherwise, its a no go. if you buy a game that ends up being awful and you downloaded it via the vita, you're outta luck if you want to sell it.
rather have hard copies, only exception i have made with downloads was the first Silent Hill on PSN.other than that pass.
Finally some incentive...
With such small memory cards, I can't imagine this being a very good way of getting games to the consumers, especially for only $5 off.
coolio. they've been doing cheaper digital sales on JPSN for longer than i've had a JPSN account. it's about time they started doing this in North America.
Wish they could make triple A down loadable titles... like the Time Burton'esque Jail Breaking game that is coming to the Vita... Just porting over PS1 & PS2 titles is cheap and poor taste.. make new games stimulate the gaming industry and economy with more game developing jobs,, stop with the re-hash of games from the mid-90's and early 2000
They really should be around 25% cheaper.
still waiting for a price drop of system
