The lights are on
At the end of March, Bungie will no longer handle player data for Halo games. The studio issued a statement today saying the transition process between it and 343 Industries, Microsoft's new internal Halo studio, will be completed March 31. After then, all live Halo data will be managed by 343.
"Bungie will no longer be able to update game stats and player service records, to host new user generated content, or to operate the Bungie Pro service," they said. "All currently supported, Bungie-developed Halo titles will be impacted by this change.
"Any replacement functionality, and all future Halo support, will be provided by Microsoft and 343 Industries via Halo Waypoint."
Bungie said it will preserve all existing historical Halo data on Bungie.net "for as long as the Internet and Bungie's data storage systems remain functional."
well looks like I am just going to be using waypoint a lot more.
This is a bittersweet moment for me. I've been a Halo fan since jump and when I was in high school Bungie.net was pretty much the only website my friends and I used because we were so engrossed with Halo 2 and everything about it. So it's sad to see the last tie Bungie had to Halo being cut on March 31st. I wish Bungie the best in their new endeavors and will most definitely be picking it whatever it is that they end up releasing.
:( Boo! I figured this would happen eventually since Bungie needs to focus on other things, but this still stinks. :( I fell in love with Halo because of what Bungie did with the series, not 343 Industries (even if they do have some Bungie vets on the team).
=( This is sad and sucks. Bungie has been the standard for me on whole a developer should handle it's community, and they've had such a large one, and a very dedicated one for over a decade now. I'm gonna miss logging into Bungie.net just to compare my friends and myself on Halo. Good luck on your next game Bungie. I hope it's great =)
I shall remember
so where would i go?
It is sad to see this, but I have faith in what 343 has in store for us. I can't wait to see what it is.
