Reader Discussion: Are You Buying A PS Vita?

I just realized that we are less than a month away from the release of the PS Vita, and I’m not nearly as excited as I should be for the release of new video game system.

Sony’s PlayStation Vita releases on February 22 here in the states. I don’t think I’ll be waiting in line to get one. Granted, I’ve already played with the thing, so I’m not super eager to try it for the first time. But, I’m also not really excited to spend around $300 to own one. I think it’s a great piece of hardware, and I’m really looking forward to playing Uncharted: Golden Abyss and a few other games, but I’m still hesitant to buy a system on day one? I kind of feel like I got burned with my PSP purchase – which I don’t think I used nearly enough. I also have an iPhone now, and I do a lot of mobile gaming on that now. So, I’m going to wait. I’ll probably buy a Vita when the price drops and its library has filled out, but part of me wishes I was excited for the release of a new video game system.

What about the rest of you. Are you planning on buying a PS Vita on day one? If not, why? What would send you over the edge and make you want one more?

  • I pre-ordered the Wi-Fi version, and a copy of Uncharted Golden Abyss to kick things off. I'm actually really excited. I love me some new hardware.
  • why buy a Vita when you have a 3DS. LOL
  • I was absolutely going to get it on day one. I've been impressed with everything I've seen so far. But between Kingdoms of Amalur, Twisted Metal, SSX, and Mass Effect 3... I'll have no time to even touch it. So it could wait.
  • Eventually, I felt like an idiot with the couple of PSPs I bought but this one is way more interesting, Netflix pretty much sealed the deal for me.
  • Eventually (kind of broke), I felt like an idiot with the couple of PSPs I bought but this one is way more interesting, Netflix pretty much sealed the deal for me.
  • The thing looks fantastic. I would absolutely buy one if it was not $300. I just can't get past that, because in the end it is going to cost close to $400 dollars when you include the tax and another game to go with it. I'll wait.
  • Not immediately, but I will eventually buy one. Between Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Resistance: Burning Skies, and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, to the unannounced title that Irrational Games is developing to the rumored Resident Evil, there are plenty of games to keep me busy.

But I didn't buy a 3DS day one, and neither will I buy a Vita. I'll wait for a price drop. $250 is just too rich for my blood. I hope developers continue to support the Vita though, but I can't shake the feeling its first year may be the best the device sees.
  • I've pre-orderd the Wifi version, 16gb memory card and Uncharted. Things I'm looking out for are Gravity Daze, Final Fantasy X, Zone of the Enders, Monster Hunter and Assassins Creed.
  • Ugh... You know what, I don't f###ing care anymore, if you guys want to be a bunch of a## monkeys, that's fine. I've had s### like this thrown at me all my life and today I say, f### you all (past, present, future), I do not care anymore about people thinking they are better then me even though they clearly are not.

Seriously, how can any of you f####ers sleep at night knowing you've pissed on someone just to make your pathetic meaningless existences look better...

I usually apologize at this point for my rants/behavior but NONE of you deserve it, nor do I give a f###.
  • Definitely not. I'm content with my PSP and normal DS.
  • With the rumours of possible iPad 3 specs in and some mixed reviews of the device coming from Japan, I won't be buying it in a long time.
  • I've never really any appeal to the PSP's. There's no games that I'm dying to play on it that I've seen so far, but I'll wait and see.
  • 300 bucks is too much. so not for a while

  • No, the costs associated with the system are ridiculous and I could just as easily buy games for my consoles that I would enjoy just as much, if not more.
  • I might get a Vita after a price drop, not that $250 is a bad price for the system, I just don't think it is worth it to me. Also stuff like "Transfarring" seems really cool, I just hope the MGS: HD collection is the only game that will utilizes the tech. Final Fantasy X HD would be awesome to play at home then take with you on the go. I guess we will have to see.
  • I feel that Sony isn't advertising NEARLY enough about it. I think I've seen a Vita in one commercial, and it was just in the sidelines. I was actually walking in Walmart yesterday, and it was only when I saw a preorder-type ad for Uncharted: Golden Abyss that I remembered that the Vita was coming out so soon.
In my opinion, they really need to step it up if they want the Vita to get noticed by the public.
  • Maybe after a price drop, the memory cards make it too expensive. Maybe when I can get it ALL for $250.

  • I want one, I just won't be picking one up on launch day due to lack of money. Maybe in a couple of months I'll get one.

  • I feel the same way about the PSP; I hardly ever used the thing. While the Vita already seems like a much better system, I'm just not willing to put down that much money for something. The current library really isn't anything special, and with all the good 3DS games coming out soon (and Skyrim and Kingdoms of Amlur: Reckoning) I'm just not going to have time to play a new system. I'll most likely get it eventually, but certainly not at launch.
  • HMMMMMMMMMM...... I might or might not buy the Vita on day one. Unless the price range is like $100 dollars, and that Sonic will have more games and that i get to embed videos from YouTube. I also hope that the PS Vita will support trophy collections just like the PS3. That's my thinking.
