[Updated] Insomniac Is Done With Resistance

[Update]

Insomniac head Ted Price, one of the classiest guys in the game industry, released this video message to fans of Resistance, explaining the company's decision to part with the franchise while thanking fans for their support over the years.

If Resistance 4 ever comes, one thing's for certain: It won't have the Insomniac logo on the box. CEO Ted Price said in an interview that his team is finished with the series. “We won’t be making any more Resistances,” he said bluntly in a recent interview with VG247.

His statement backs up what various members of Insomniac's crew have said for a while now, coming most recently from Resistance 3's creative director.

Back in August, Marcus Smith said that while his team may be done with the series, he thought it still had plenty of room for future installments. "We've got a lot of different places for the universe to go, so I could certainly see the series going to another developer. I'm sure Sony would want to find a high-caliber developer to do a good offering. I don't think they'd hand the franchise over to somebody who is going to screw it up."

  • Resistance is starting to grow stale, probably best Insomniac moves on and lets someone else breath new life into it.
  • Damn shame. Resistance had its flaws but it was still a fun series. I hope they're not doing this on account of a few negative reviews for R3 or because they feel they need to refocus their efforts after All 4 One. :/
  • Makes sense to me. They probably want to focus on new IPs and Ratchet and Clank going forward. Personally, I would much rather play Overstrike than a Resistance 4.
  • But...but,I liked these games! And the fact that it's going to another developer just makes me nervous. I guess they did this because they want to focus on other IPs...oh well,we'll see how the Resistance series will turn out in other developer's hands.
  • Good. One of PS3's worst exclusive series. Maybe they can make another real Ratchet and Clank game already.
  • "I don't think they'd hand the franchise over to somebody who is going to screw it up."

Apparently, Mr. Smith did not remember what happened to Insomniac's Spyro series when he said this.
  • It was gonna end someday

  • Wouldn't not screwing it up imply that the games were good to begin with?  They were all very lackluster games imo.

  • I remember having a lot of fun with the original release when I first got my PS3, and later with Resistance 2 as well - the multiplayer especially. But I'm currently playing through 3 and... not feeling compelled to finish :|

  • good, im sick of resistance. We do not need it no more

  • Resistance 3 was a blast. Shame poor sales led to Insomniac ditching this great franchise...If only Sony handed over Resistance to Guerilla however
  • Resistance is a great series. Let's just leave it where it ended and move on. It ended on a great note and there's no need to push any kind of forced content on the fans.

  • The same people doing Resistance for Vita Nihilistic will take over.

    On with Overstrike!

Please don't stop Ratchet though or keep making them like All4one!

  • I don't know. I'm still playing the first and not finding it too enjoyable. So maybe this is a good thing.

  • It's all because of Dan's review! He ruined Resistance for everyone!
  • I really got into the series with the first two games, I loved the action and the types of weapons. Then with the third entry it felt exactly like what they said in the interview, like they were just trying to get it over with. It's a shame the series has a lot of potential.

  • Yeah Resistance 3 wasn't very good, but then again, none of PS3's exclusives were very good in 2011.
  • That sucks. What sucks even more is the pathetic 400,000 copies Resistance 3 sold. What a damn shame, considering that it was by far one of the best shooters of 2011.
  • Noooooo. I don't want another Spyro. Just stop making it altogether, don't throw a precious and beloved franchise around like a whore again.
  • as much as I dug Resistance 3, i'm glad they're done with it. i'm a big supporter of letting franchises run their course. A Crank in Time was a perfect conclusion for those characters, if only they stopped Ratchet and Clank before All 4 One. don't worry Resistance fans, Sony'll just reboot it in 5 years or have a new developer make a new trilogy.
