The lights are on
As part of a company-wide realignment, THQ announced today it is exiting its kids' licensed titles and focusing on core video games and its digital business.
“THQ will be a more streamlined organization focused only on our strongest franchises,” said Brian Farrell, president and CEO of THQ. “The success of Saints Row: The Third is an example of what our revised strategy and focus can achieve."
Farrell said Saints Row: The Third shipped 3.8 million units globally and is expected to ship between five and six million in its lifetime. The digital content for the game has resulted in the highest digital revenue of any console title in the publisher's history.
THQ also said its five internal studios are developing key titles, including UFC Undisputed 3 and Darksiders II, as well as Company of Heroes, inSANE, Saints Row, Warhammer 40,000, and the new title from Patrice Désilets. The publisher will continue to work with external development talent for both existing and new franchises.
"THQ’s goal is to optimize its portfolio for the current generation of consoles and to establish new franchises on the next generation of game devices."
The publisher said it will address its new business strategy on its third quarter 2012 conference call scheduled for Thursday, February 2, 2012.
It is always great when a publisher finds success by breaking the 'norm'. Also im glad to see that Saints Row 3 is selling well. Its an insanely fun game.
i really like the hover jets in this game
Nice. I need to play Saints 3 soon!
but i like spongebob!
Good for them, i remember when THQ was in the dumps, im excited to see them back on there feet, and what better way to show it by Kicking off the old shackles that were those horrible kids games, way to go THQ
Good. Hopefully that will slow down the amount of crap that's in the market today in video games.
Saints Row 3 is a kid's game. I see kids with their parents buying Saints Row 3 at Gamestop all the time!
Cool. I hope it helps them out financially, 'cause lord knows that money's what THQ needs right now. Which is freaking ridiculous, by the by. Look at the games they have coming out! How in the hell is their stock price not skyrocketing!?!
Good.... Bring on the PAIN!
Oh no, who's gonna make crappy licensed kids games for me now?
saints row 3 was amazing i hope the 4th is just as good
This game really surprised me on how fun it is. There is a lot to do and the its so over the top on purpose that you can't get enough. Gotta strap it on and play!
Awesome, THQ is on the rise, Saints Row The Third and Darksiders are both amazing, and I can't wait for the future of this company to continue getting brighter...
This is really good to hear. I hope that they can continue to right their ship this year. I think that the IP's they're starting to put out have some real potential. The one I'm most looking forward to is Darksiders.
What about 4A studios' Metro: Last Light!? I REALLY wanna know!
Fine by me, THQ has been helping make some great games thus far.
Nice. Glad THQ is seemingly alive and hopeful.
There are no boundaries on what parents let their kids buy these days, so I feel like this move was a long time coming.
Sanits Row and Darksiders were great games. All the other ones were kinda lame
