Rumor: Wii U 'Twice As Powerful' As Xbox 360

by Jim Reilly on Jan 25, 2012 at 07:03 AM

Here we go again. Unverified rumors about next generation consoles continue to drip out.

We still don't have the official hardware specs of the Wii U. Nintendo hasn't released them yet since unveiling the console last June. Speculation about what's under its hood continues to surface, however,  as developers begin to create titles for it.

Today, a report from UK-based website Develop cites one Wii U developer speaking under the condition of anonymity that says the console's final hardware is roughly twice as powerful as Microsoft’s Xbox 360. The report states that while the number may seem high, other developers believed it would be even higher that what they originally thought.

“I've heard [a project designer] complain it's underpowered compared to what Nintendo announced, resulting in people having to de-scale their plans,” the source told Develop.

Nintendo previously said it will re-unveil the Wii U at this coming E3. We'll hopefully get the final hardware specs then.
