The lights are on
[Update] : A new report from Kotaku this morning says industry sources claim the next Xbox will play Blu-ray discs, may not play used games, and will ship with the next iteration of Kinect. Kotaku said Microsoft may implement some sort of anti-used games system for its next console, which could include linking a copy of a game to your Xbox Live account. The reports says right now it's completely hypothetical and is not clear how it may be included, if at all.
One source familiar with Microsoft's plans for the new Xbox said
Microsoft plans to ship their new Xbox with a new version of its red-hot
Kinect hands-free sensor system. The new Kinect would contain an
on-board processor, a feature originally intended for the first Kinect.
That processor would enable a new Kinect to more effectively detect
[Original post] The Internet is swirling with rumors today about the graphics capability of Microsoft's next console.
According to a report from Fudzilla published today, the power behind the next Xbox will be a PowerPC CPU married to a modified ATI Southern Islands 7000 series GPU. The code name for the 32nm chip is Oban, and the report says it's currently in production. The first run of these chips are being made for development kits only.
Fudzilla's report suggests chips for consumer consoles will go into production by the end of the year, suggesting we won't see Microsoft's new console until 2013 at the earliest. Meanwhile, IGN says the GPU will be based on the 6000 series instead, akin to the Radeon HD 6670.
So far, Microsoft isn't commenting on any of the rumors.

I for one love bits of news like this, I know it may be rumour and speculation but I can't wait for the next generation as I'm a self confessed and proud graphics whore.
As for slating it from this bit of news, well that is just plain ridiculous. I would of hoped that people were more intelligent than to just blithely state their allegiance for a manufacturer before they have even seen what they are going to be offering.
I'll probably just get a new computer.
It would be really nice to see these rumors confirmed.
I'll ignore IGN, I don't think they have a lick of sense or anything to base their claims on. On top of that I really seriously hope they're wrong because the 6670 is a mid range budget priced graphics card now. By the time it comes out it'll be severely outdated. If they go with something that weak and ask me an arm and a leg for it I'll just skip Microsoft's next console. I wouldn't pay a penny over $400 for a console with that tech right now. If they put out a console next year with that tech I'd honestly feel insulted considering I could buy that CPU and that GPU now and build a PC around them for less than what's likely to be asked for the console.
The new xbox could be good. And if Sony decides to not make another playstation, they may hold the market.
There are quite a few things Microsoft needs to work on before they work on a new console. Such as better graphics and working out the problems with its video playback.
The silent treatment usually means its true so microsoft when and how
Hopefully it's based off the Southern Islands (7000 series) instead of the already over a year old 6670, as this new Xbox won't be released for at the very least, another year, year and a half.
So at the earliest, if based on the 6670, it would already be sporting a two year old GPU. An underpowered one to boot.
i'll be getting both ps4 and the next xbox, may be the wii u not sure
About the update: Yes, No, Maybe.
