The lights are on
[Update] : A new report from Kotaku this morning says industry sources claim the next Xbox will play Blu-ray discs, may not play used games, and will ship with the next iteration of Kinect. Kotaku said Microsoft may implement some sort of anti-used games system for its next console, which could include linking a copy of a game to your Xbox Live account. The reports says right now it's completely hypothetical and is not clear how it may be included, if at all.
One source familiar with Microsoft's plans for the new Xbox said Microsoft plans to ship their new Xbox with a new version of its red-hot Kinect hands-free sensor system. The new Kinect would contain an on-board processor, a feature originally intended for the first Kinect. That processor would enable a new Kinect to more effectively detect users' motions.
[Original post] The Internet is swirling with rumors today about the graphics capability of Microsoft's next console.
According to a report from Fudzilla published today, the power behind the next Xbox will be a PowerPC CPU married to a modified ATI Southern Islands 7000 series GPU. The code name for the 32nm chip is Oban, and the report says it's currently in production. The first run of these chips are being made for development kits only.
Fudzilla's report suggests chips for consumer consoles will go into production by the end of the year, suggesting we won't see Microsoft's new console until 2013 at the earliest. Meanwhile, IGN says the GPU will be based on the 6000 series instead, akin to the Radeon HD 6670.
So far, Microsoft isn't commenting on any of the rumors.

Dont let MS tell you what you can do with your property!!! And dont think this is too soon...if they get the idea in their evil heads that this is ok, who knows what other rights they'll attempt to take away from you!
Microsoft may charge for most things, but it would destroy their place in the videogame industry if they didn't allow people to play used games, even if they had some policy where they charged 10 Microsoft points to be able to play a used game. That being said, if they do go through with that, I'll be picking up the next iteration of the Playstation instead.
Well, if that's the case, that means it won't be multiple red rings that prevent me from buying another Xbox product this time, but something just as ridiculous.
Really hope that's a rumor - I'm looking forward to an Xbox that works again.
Heyyyyyyyyyyyy! (may not play used games) Am I the only person that read this part.. WooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooW!
Game Companies will only hurt themselves if they implement this "anti-used games system" BS!
I, for one, will not be purchasing many games at all, if they want to be greedy lil' b*st*rds!
Isn't all this DLC not making you buckets of cash already?!
I do not have the funds to fill their pockets with even more $$$.
And I know of plenty of gamers that rent and/or buy many used games, that feel the same as I do.
Dont bite the hand that feeds you, Mr. Corporation.
WE WILL BITE BACK!
Just look at whats happening to Netflix after they decided to get greedy and screw over their own customers...
Did this post actually refer to the Kinect as red-hot? For who? The Kinect's best function to date has been it's uncanny ability to almost effortlessly produce a barrage of hype. I have yet to see a Kinect game get a 9 or 10, let alone an 8. And no one, absolutely no one I know that loves games is excited about or even likes the Kinect. The Kinect needs a single game that does for it what Halo did for the original Xbox.
And as for the no used games thing... ridiculous. (sigh)
Is it just me or does it seem that some of these are REALLY trying to test the limits of how much they can piss people off and screw them over?
well while i cant say that I approve of the used game security thing, I have to ask you guys a question because i have never seen it asked. why wont Microsoft and PC and play station just connect their communities on certain games? I think that if they did it, it would be great(except for all of the trolls on all of the consoles that say theirs is better). I really don't see a significant down side to the idea. and Sony has already done so with portal 2 so why cant wont they do it now?
What did GAMESTOP do 2 you MS & Sony???
"Lock out used games"? Why would they do that? Sounds rather inane.
Locking out used games should prove to be a horrendous idea. As careful as many parents are being about their pocketbooks, they won't see a point to spending money on a system where you can only mainly buy new games thus forcing many to stick with the older gen systems. I would be ecstatic about a new system but not if I can't save money by being able to buy used games.
