The lights are on
[Update] : A new report from Kotaku this morning says industry sources claim the next Xbox will play Blu-ray discs, may not play used games, and will ship with the next iteration of Kinect. Kotaku said Microsoft may implement some sort of anti-used games system for its next console, which could include linking a copy of a game to your Xbox Live account. The reports says right now it's completely hypothetical and is not clear how it may be included, if at all.
One source familiar with Microsoft's plans for the new Xbox said
Microsoft plans to ship their new Xbox with a new version of its red-hot
Kinect hands-free sensor system. The new Kinect would contain an
on-board processor, a feature originally intended for the first Kinect.
That processor would enable a new Kinect to more effectively detect
[Original post] The Internet is swirling with rumors today about the graphics capability of Microsoft's next console.
According to a report from Fudzilla published today, the power behind the next Xbox will be a PowerPC CPU married to a modified ATI Southern Islands 7000 series GPU. The code name for the 32nm chip is Oban, and the report says it's currently in production. The first run of these chips are being made for development kits only.
Fudzilla's report suggests chips for consumer consoles will go into production by the end of the year, suggesting we won't see Microsoft's new console until 2013 at the earliest. Meanwhile, IGN says the GPU will be based on the 6000 series instead, akin to the Radeon HD 6670.
So far, Microsoft isn't commenting on any of the rumors.

Well well, i wasn't planning to buy xbox next generation... but this sounds good... lol
Anti used games? Im sorry but that is a stupid idea. I agree that used games undermines the publishers, but without them gamestops will fail, and so will family owned game stores. Which means everything goes digital, reducing kids chances at learning about and playing games. Not to mention the fact that after a few years every launch title would be worth insane amount. A few years after its lifespan is up and no one will ever touch it again, because you couldnt get games on it.
please dont use the ati 6000 series, i have one in my computer and its not that great. the 7970 is out now, use that.
Anti-used games also means you could never lend a game to a buddy or vice versa.
Can't play used games? Not getting it. Microsoft can go *** themselves for that one. If it weren't for the used market, I wouldn't even be using their console......
That makes no sense at all. Microsoft would be insanely stupid to implement a no-used games system because I don't think any gamers are going to continue using the system if they can't play used games on it. When you get literal about it, any game that you don't buy brand new yourself is considered a used game. That includes games borrowed from a friend. If the game gets linked to the gamertag, how is that supposed to work with people who have families? I have 5 people in my family and we all use the same two XBox 360's, so what does this mean for us? How would backwards compatibility work with this kind of a feature? I think it would be stupid of any company to release a new console without BC. Nintendo is supporting the Wii's games, so anyone who doesn't have BC is going to stand out in a bad way. They also need to give us BC support for memory. I have a solid 115GB of saved game data that I am not willing to lose for a new console.
Perplexing, I wonder, how does this site feel about this considering it is run by Gamestop, whose major revenue streams come from the buying and selling of used games couples with a discount account which ties also directly into encouraging used purchases.
I say it constantly, but I'll repeat it again...It still won't stand up to a good PC.
I don't like that new update at all. It sounds like a console killer.
The PS3 was also rumored to have anti-used games systems, but that never happened. I could see that developers would be upset at losing revenue to used games stores, but I don't believe that Xbox would risk alienating their fans so much as to actually implement this.
I would never get a game console that blocks used games or furthers the war against used games. It is ridiculous already with online passes. It is a piece of hard software and it has been paid for so the rights should travel with it. These companies are despicable.
May not play used games, what?
That better be a rumor.
No used games? :| that's a turn off. Oh well, I suppose since the 360 is this good, the next one will probably be fanastic!
I can't see the next Xbox or PS4's graphics being as better as PC at all; if anyting I see a little improvement to them, but not much....If anything I see the next gen consoles Wii U, 720, and PS4 will be about how we play video games the new ways to play games. Also that whole "will not play used games" will not happen, if Microsoft really decides to do that well they're just digging their own grave.
It better be backwards compatible all i gotta say
