The lights are on
SNK is getting back into the console business...well, sort of. The company plans to release an officially licensed portable device that includes Neo Geo games!
According to a report from Famicom Plaza, the new system, which has a temporary name "Neo Geo Portable Device," ships with a 4.3 inch screen, two gigs of internal storage, and 20 Neo Geo games built in. It measures 170x72x15mm, which is slightly larger than an iPhone.
Controls include four face buttons, a d-pad, four shoulder buttons, a menu button, a start button, and buttons for volume and brightness. Ports include headphones, AV and an SD card slot. No pricing or release date has been announced.
The games included are the North American version with English text:
1.WORLD HEROES 2.ULTIMATE 11 3.TOP PLAYER'S GOLF 4.SENGOKU 5.NAM-1975 6.MUTATION NATION 7.LAST RESORT 8.KING OF MONSTERS 9.FRENZY 10.CYBER LIP 11.FATAL FURY SPECIAL 12.ART OF FIGHTING 13.SUPER SIDEKICKS 14.LEAGUE BOWLING 15.METAL SLUG 16.MAGICIAN LORD 17.BASEBALL STARS PROFESSIONAL 18.SAMURAI SHODOWN 19.KING OF FIGHTERS '94 20.FATAL FURY
The report does not list a manufacturer of the new portable. Game Informer has followed up with SNK for additional comment.

I want it.
thats great!
While I do love Metal Slug, I doubt this will be priced cheap enough for it to be worth it.
And at a time when portable gaming is purportedly "dying". Hey, why not!
Awesome! This thing is the sh*t! Forget the PSP and the Gameboy Advance or even the Wii U; this thing is, like, so freaking awesome...
I want everything video games so the fact that this is coming out isn't even fair.
I'll admit, I'm really digging the idea of it. It's got kind of a minimalist look, and if it's something small enough to actually fit in my pocket, I could see wanting one.
Like everything else, it really just comes down to price versus the quality of games it can provide.
Awesome! SNK Neo Geo! It's like the 90's all over again!! Hopefully they can resolve their price issues that hurt them initially. You will never find a better system than SNK... king of the arcades! Just very expensive... I wonder if they will have more games available to buy/load or if it's just a closed nostalgic system...
