Trion Worlds' Rift & More Coming To EA's Origin

Electronic Arts is growing its stable of games available on its Origin download service with new partnerships with 11 publishers, including Trion Worlds, who will be bringing Rift to Origin.

The MMORPG is the first game officially announced from this deal, which also includes publisher and developers CD Projekt RED, Paradox Interactive, Robot Entertainment, Freebird Games, Recoil Games, Autumn Games, 1C Company, inXile Entertainment, Core Learning Ltd., and N3V Games.

No official titles from the other partners have been announced for Origin, and it would be a shame if we didn't see CD Projekt RED's Witcher series, Robot's Orcs Must Die!, and Recoil's Rochard. It's good to see with these partnerships that Origin seems to be targeting a diverse lineup, as evidence in partnerships with companies like Freebird Games (check out some of their stuff at their website) and Core Learning.

  • This is pretty good news. I would love to see that Origin becomes a real competitor in the digital distribution market of games and I guess these are the first steps.
  • Maybe if they weren't bullshitting everyone about why they won't release games on Steam, I wouldn't be so anti-Origin. Comptetition is good, monopoly (even if it's only on their own games) is bad. Forcing people to install their service because they're greedy is even worse.
  • I don't get why EA "let" GOG have their classics. I'm a huge GOG fan, but I'm just talking purely from a business aspect.
  • lol EA will not be getting any of my money, *** origin, its glorified DRM at its worst

  • On one hand, if Origin is here to stay, which is most likely would be, I would like for them to start upgrading Origin and really make it a viable competitor to Steam. However, this being EA I really don't have much hope for that, and I still think there's a reason Valve / Steam are on top of the market, and EA should really take note.
  • "It's good to see with these partnerships that Origin seems to be targeting a diverse lineup"

Doesnt sound too balanced, but ultimately until they start supporting indies steam is better and when origins stops spying on you, then I may consider it. But ultimately they may never get a dime from me, especially when they talk bullcrap about steam like the laughable propaganda press release of bioware in trying to explain themselves.
  • I will never move from Steam to Origin....ever. Steam has it right, very right, and I see Origin having a hard time ever competing with a base like Steam has. Furthermore (in my humble opinion) Steam has their fingers on the pulse of the PC gaming industry and it's users/consumers. Origin has already lost this battle.

  • As long as they don't start to make upcoming 3rd-party-releases origin-exclusive (it's enough that EA has its games origin-exclusive), I'm happy about the competition and hope that valve expans their platform with better features in the future to keep up with the competetive battle.

As it is now, origin is a badly designed spyware tool which annoys more than it helps other than putting more money into ea's purse. And it's still a resource-expensive download tool rather than a community plattform which it should be to keep up with steam.

  • It's heartening to see all of the steam support in the comments. There was a time when Madden was pretty much the biggest thing around and no matter how I argued people would not even consider the idea of boycotting EA until they stopped making yearly clones and charging full price for them. And no I see people refusing to use Origin, and in some glorious cases, refusing to purchase EA games even though they have some really big titles.
  • If rift or other mmo comes to the systems would be great

  • I think EA is trying to kill Rift.

  • Did someone say EA? Hold on, let me put on my irrational-seething-hatred hat.
