Ubisoft Closes Vancouver Studio

Ubisoft said today it has closed its Vancouver development studio, which previously worked on various sports titles for the publisher, including: Pure Futbol for Xbox 360, PC, and PlayStation 3.

The studio was previously known as Action Pants before being acquired by Ubisoft in 2009. Action Pants was first formed in 2006.

“Ubisoft confirms that we have made the difficult decision to close its studio in Vancouver," a Ubisoft spokesperson told Game Informer. "Unfortunately, we haven’t found the right formula for success for the talented team there. We thank our Vancouver team for their hard work and the projects that they have delivered.

"Team members will have the opportunity to consider positions in other Ubisoft studios and we will work with each of them to help find the best next step, whether it be within Ubisoft or outside.”

Ubisoft Vancouver also developed Academy of Champions: Soccer for Wii and Motionsports Adrenaline for Xbox 360 Kinect and PlayStation 3 Move.

  • Pure Fur-what? Maybe that's why they closed.

  • I'll bet that if they were still called "Action Pants", they'd still be around.
  • How disappointing. I hope the economy turns around soon so that stuff like this would happen less often.
  • if 2011 was bad for some developer that got closed down, look at 2012, it allready got over three studios closed down in january alone

  • it was a useless studio, nothing good ever came out of the studio anyways..take the employees and send them to montreal to keep the talents no avoid having people on ei with no work..

  • This coming after the news yesterday about their piracy software issues..hmmm

  • WTF!? THERE GOES MY FUTURE JOB! (I live in Vancouver)

  • It looks like Ubisoft Vancouver should've stayed Action Pants. Best of luck to those out of a job!

  • Disappointing to hear. I hate when studios are closed, many great people get the can :/

  • this was probably the worst studio ever

  • any company that has subsidiaries in india or other places where people are exploited doesn't deserve to exist anyway. i hope ubisoft will lose talented artists and customers
