Final Fantasy XIII-2's Achievements/ Trophies Are Nice And Vague

by Jeff Cork on Jan 14, 2012 at 08:27 AM

In addition to giving players a reason to keep playing, achievements and trophies often seem to have another purpose: spoiling key story moments. It's tough to estimate the number of big surprises we've had ruined for us after taking a quick glance at a game's incentives. That's why Final Fantasy XIII-2's list is kind of awesome.

The descriptive text for the story-related achievements read a lot like poetry. "Left behind a normal life, and began a journey through time," is certainly more interesting than "Finished chapter 1," and "Acknowledged the threat facing the world, and decided to fight back," beats the pants off of "Beat XXX in battle." Of course, that degree of ambiguity cuts both ways. Good luck determining what "Defeated an army's worth of enemies" translates to, or estimating what constitutes a fortune.

Looks like you'll have to wait for the game to hit the PS3 and Xbox 360 on January 31 to find out. Good luck.

Thanks for the tip, Tyler!
