Kid Icarus 3DS Gets Uprisen With Peripheral

First there was the 3DS Circle Pad Pro, and now there's the Kid Icarus: Uprising stand.

A twitpic from Uprising designer Masahiro Sakurai and accompanying Japanese text shows off a hands-free 3DS stand that will come with the game called the Nintendo 3DS Stand. Now, whether this is a separate bundled version of the game or it's standard for all copies of Uprising is unknown. We also don't know if this is even coming over to the States, and if it does, if it'll be at a later time like the Circle Pad Pro.

Do you think this a useful peripheral or an unnecessary gimmick?

  • seems like the gaming industry, especially nintendo is getting desperate with these accessories
  • what? why?
  • Look ma, no hands!

    EDIT: Thats what she said.

EDIT: Is it needless? Technically, you don't "need" video games. So no, you don't really need this. But I don't have a problem with this accessory. There have been worse accessories for less purposeful purposes...

EDIT: Seriously? I mean it comes WITH the game. I have less of a problem with it than I did before now by reading that.

EDIT: It MAY come with the game, or maybe a bundled thing... Still. I don't really have a problem with it.
  • The only reason I could ever see myself using this would be for AR cards, but then again, who plays those anymore?
  • It's because the 3D only works when you relax your eyes and when your hands move it makes your eyes refocus messing with the 3D. Having it stationary is a good idea but I would expect them to give it away because you can just make one by leaning a book or something hard next to it.

  • dude why would i need to buy this if i can hold it my 3ds myself, i guess some people are just lazy

  • i don't know why someone would ever buy this when its a HANDHELD -_-
  • I think this is a neat idea. While it may or may not be the greatest way to play every game (it probably works very well with Kid Icarus and I bet it's the best angle/position for the 3D) it could be great for other things like watching movies on Netflix or videos from the eShop and/or Nintendo Video. Hopefully it will come to the US and be bundled with the game.
  • On Nintendo, u so silly!

  • I applaud this, disregard the fool below

  • when i first read the part bout hands free i was like *** the 3DS goin to have kinect-like caapbilites then i kept readin an thought "oh, never mind."
  • Yeah it seems unnecessary, but did everyone skip past the part where it might be bundled with the game free of extra cost?  If that is the case, what is the problem with it?  As Zonified pointed it, beyond using it for this game it would be useful when trying to watch Netflix, while also being useful for certain other games as well, such as when Fire Emblem 3DS is released.

If it's free, it's for me, as the saying goes.

  • Is holding the system that much of a problem that people actually need an attachment for it?

  • Do they have a peripheral that makes me right-handed? THAT would actually be useful. :P

  • Yeah that's ok, I don't play on a level surface.

  • it's kinda like free junk so i guess it's okay, but man it just seems so pointless...

  • I'm not usually one to bring the negative but, this is just really stupid. I can't imagine this device selling well. Alas, I'm excited for Kid Icarus!
  • Im not even sure what to say about this

  • It looks like the stand stores use to prevent someone stealing the 3DS -_-

  • Based on the last pic, it looks like you play Uprising while holding the 3DS with just your left hand, while using the stylus with your right.  If that's the case, the stand would definitely make the game easier to control.  If, however, you can use the face buttons instead of the stylus and hold the 3DS with both hands, then the stand wouldn't really be needed.  Either way, if it's free, I'll take it.
