Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was the UK's best-selling title last year, according to data released today by UKIE, a trade association that represents the UK's video game industry.

This marks the third year in a row that Call of Duty took the top spot in the UK for the year. Modern Warfare 2 was the top game in 2009 and Black Ops in 2010. FIFA 12 and Battlefield 3 took the #2 and #3 spots, respectively.

“In a year when overall consumer spending was down, the launch of so many high-quality titles showed that there was still strength in the UK’s boxed-product games market," said Jo Twist, CEO of UKIE. "However, whilst the boxed product market still remains a key revenue stream, digital is where much future growth lies and it is therefore vital that we understand the size of this market. "
