The lights are on
The superhero-powered MMO has been out for a full year, and Sony Online Entertainment has some impressive stats to share about the game's success. Since launch the game has had 1.8 million registered players on PC and over 2.3 million on PS3. Those players made over 3.5 million in-game Heroes, and over 2 million Villain characters. All told, this impressively sized population of players and characters accounted for 3.6 million days of in-game playtime. In addition to a robust population, SOE has also been hard at work fleshing out the in-game world, adding 200 new quests, 15 new zones, and 1,800 new encounters post-launch, and rolling out updates that included the villains like Ra's al Ghul, locations like the Fortress of Solitude, and new power sets from characters like The Flash and Green Lantern. As a thank you to its players, DCUO is gifting in-game characters with a special cape with the number "1" inscribed on its back to all characters created before today, January 11th. DC Universe Online went free-to-play late last year, and the game's continuing success seems to be an indicator that the approach is a viable one for high-end MMOs moving forward.

This looks really good. Glad to see it doing well.
Still play it pretty frequently. TOR has been taking a lot of my MMO time for the past few weeks though, so it might be a while before I really get back into it.
One of the most action-packed MMOs out there, imo; very happy to hear it's successful.
Congrats, DC! You deserve it!
It was fun, but it was a bit harder to communicate on a PS3 without a USB keyboard for my PS3, and the font was sometimes funny looking. But other then those two complaints, it was really fun.
Wow, those are some surprising statistics. Good to hear.
An awesome game that I can't seem to put down. In this last update, they added crafting. Some good content is on the way as well! I can't wait.
Really it's been a whole year? The days are long, but the years are short.
Awww, man. I was just gonna try this today. If it wasn't for the update which HAS to be downloaded to play the game plus I got a really crappy bandwith now (due to bad weather, it would've taken me 3 hrs to download 120MB).
Still... I would've been a day late for that cape :(
I made a hero and a villain!
Wow, has it been one year already? Time goes by way too fast! :( But good job to DCUO.
Huh, it's only been out a year? Didn't last very long on a subscription model.
It would have done better if they offered the payment plan format with the F2P out of the gate. This starting up strong as a subscription based game with justified reasons for it.. then months later backing out on that and going F2P is a sign of weakness and greed. I am so glad I didn't buy the game. I would really be mad with dropping the cash on something that was F2P less then 9mths after it's release.
